Got the happy machine rolling as it's off to the surgeon's to see how my foot is doing, and on to the lab after a 12 hour fast. Ain't that fast!

Born and raised in Miami. Got to Great Lakes Naval Training Center 12/1/1964-a little north of Chicago. I'd never seen snow(was shoveling it the next morning @ 0215)and didn't know it could get that cold(wind offa Lake Michigan). Large, economy size "NOPE!".

I arrived at boot camp at Naval Training Center, Orlando, FL in August of '72. Different kind of weather. However, being from Southeast Texas, I really wasn't bothered. Green flag meant we could double time march. Black flag meant we walked. Never did see much green flags. Had a few Navy buddies that went to Great Lakes in the winter. I used to laugh when they told me they had to stand snow watches.

When I was in the Charleston, SC, Navy band, we were flown down to Orlando in 68(?)for the transfer of the Orl. NTC from USAF usage. Ceremonial bs, etc. That acreage later became a mall(Orlando Fashion Square).
I had the "dumpster watch" Christmas Eve 1964 at Great lakes NTC. This consisted of me walking around the barracks for 2+ hours in stupidly cold temperatures plus wind offa Lake Michigan, making sure no one stole our dumpster. [no one did]

Boy that brings back memories. I "volunteered" time out of my Christmas leave to guard an empty building at Fort Dix. Had not thought of that in yrs.

Well, I think they're only pink after much washing. The standard color is red. The Interwebz is full of them. Google "union suit". We will expect pictures. Perhaps a New Year's Day excursion to the gas station?

And now officially boot free here at Château du Morrighan. Labs are done &c &c will hear about those in a day or three. Back to the surgeon in six weeks to see if the bonus round of surgery is indicated. So really there are all kinds of dumpster watch assignments.
