About 10 years ago my wife's brother's father was a semi trucker. He had just landed a nice job. He was unloading logs in Oregon when the unloaders told him to back up. Being the nosey I know it all guy he was he was watching to make sure they did the job right. One of the lines snapped and a 5 foot diameter log fell directly onto his legs. He lost everything from the knees down. So when people tell me to stay out the way, I move waaaay out of the way!
His life changed in a heartbeat.
Had my haircut today. There is a lady in our neighborhood who semi-retired and works a couple of days a week out of her house. She's 81 and sharp as a tack. She been cutting our hair for many years.
We were talking and got on the topic about little stuff bugging the heck out of you and she said "You mean like when someone puts the toilet paper roll on where it rolls off the backside?" I busted out laughing and said we were just alike! BWAAAHHAAAA! I said my sister does that and I flip it around when we're at her house. LOL! Felt pretty good to laugh like that.

Sorry to read that about your wife's brother's father (your FIL?). I suppose that could happen when one is only half a trucker.
After quite a few phone calls and searching. Me and the better half are getting vaccines tomorrow...

I see today I can sign up for the queue for a vaccine. At 65, I'm in.
My Ray (the bass' name) went to the luthier today. Explained what I want, and what is needed, and he is fairly drooling at the prospect of what is apparently a valuable instrument. It's valuable enough to me to put in good repair first, before my fun with the big blue bass. The little blue bass is in the queue for the luthier too, before it ships. It all works out.

We’re not quite 65 yet, very close.. but I got on lists for people that don’t show up.
Thankfully all pharmaceuticals are working overtime now to provide the country with the vaccines. Thank goodness, about time. 
Worked on the coffee table project today. Top cut to size. A few pics added. I have the two left over pieces of the top to practice with the router work. Hoping I'll be able to route existing edges enough to remove the finish on the bead but not damage anything else. Won't be able to match the stain so the bead will be accent.

Nice weather this week! Probably take a day off from sawdust tomorrow, ride the scooter and change the oil.

I get my second one Sunday. I can only imagine the feeling of relief I'll have driving home.
These could be considered "baby steps" but, anything is better than what we have experienced in the past year.
Take those shots and let's get back to a more "normal" life. I can't wait for April 14th. Two weeks after my second vaccine. I may even go to a restaurant (with a mask or two)

You are quite right, @StereoPlayer. After this past year, it has become very clear that those colds and flu's of the past can be more lethal, especially as we get older. All the more reason to protect ourselves. Masks, hand washing and sanitizers will be a way of life for me and many others in the future.
I have not had a cold in a year. But... I did a a hell of a one February 2020...covid?
Good question. I was hospitalize with, what the docs said, was walking pneumonia at the end of October, 2019. It had all the symptoms of COVID including the possible need for a ventilator (and possible death).
Later, I learned that COVID may have been present in the US prior to December, 2019. I asked my doctor if that was a possibility as I wanted to donate plasma to help others. He said no but, no COVID test was done. So, I have stayed in my home for the most part of last year (and so far this year). Not taking any chances and awaiting my second shot.
I was reading today that 15% of all new covid cases locally are the variant. The number has been climbing at a steep rate, it was 2% not long ago. They still don’t know how effective the vaccines are against the variant. They are quite concerned. There is no way to predict how this thing will mutate in the future.
The idea of the vaccine is not that people won’t continue to get it. They will but at a lower rate. They are hoping that some level of immunity will prevent people from dying and from overtaxing the hospital ICU’s with critical cases.
Bottom line, keep taking precautions. Don’t get caught with your mask down.

In reading these last few pages, it occurs to me I've not been down with any sort of crud — common or otherwise — in at least a year. There could be a correlation with not having left the house in any significant way in the same period of time but who knows. What I know is this last year has ruined my enjoyment of mid-morning coffee.

All 4 of us in my 'family' were pretty sick late '19-early '20 b4 COVID was a thing. IDK if we had it, but it sucked.
