In reading these last few pages, it occurs to me I've not been down with any sort of crud — common or otherwise — in at least a year. There could be a correlation with not having left the house in any significant way in the same period of time but who knows. What I know is this last year has ruined my enjoyment of mid-morning coffee.

You found the straw offensive but not the bubblehead?

I’ve never tasted coffee.

A café down the street sells variations on the coffee theme, like this. People seem to like these sort of things.

Dalgona Coffee » Hummingbird High
The bubblehead might keep me alive. Having to drink coffee through a straw would make me want to kill myself.

You could get a milk shake made with coffee ice cream for lots less, I'd wager. Less pretentious, too. Wouldn't have to drink it with one's pinky in the air. :D

Don’t point your pinky up unless you have syphilis.

Quote:

The “pinky up” position may be about sexual disease.

One commonly held belief is that the court of Louis XIV in 17th century Paris was so rife with syphilis that a symptom became a sign of the upper class. One thing syphilis does is damage the joints of your fingers. After a few years, you are no longer able to bend your pinky finger. When holding a glass or cup, your pinkie will point uselessly at the ceiling. Extending the pinky may also have been a courtly sign to indicate one had syphilis (how civilized!).

The non-infected commoners aped the nobility.

I have not had a cold in a year. But... I did a a hell of a one February 2020...covid?

We had our flu shots in Nov 2019. Both of us got really sick with flu like symptoms right before Xmas 2019. Coughing, congestion, etc. and my wife lost her sense of smell and taste. The cough stayed around for over a month. My wife's senses came back after a couple of weeks. That's when she decided to leave me - Hey-O! Thank you, I'm here all week! Covid? Don't know. My wife had a regular check up with the doc in Jan 2020. They did the covid antibody test and it was negative. We haven't been sick with anything since since then.

We're staying with the masks. It's been pretty easy to keep distance in places like the groc store and Lowes but we avoid those places on weekends and no restaurants except take out or delivery.

Get an espresso machine. I've had this one for about 3 yrs. Works great. Geez, the price has gone up 125 bucks since I bought mine! [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

This is the one I really wanted. lol.

I go to an independent coffee shop about once a week usually early Sat or Sun mornings. I'm usually the only one in there. If there are more than 3-4 people I don't go in. Nice gal that owns the place. She's struggling but has been able to stay open. I leave a generous tip.

I have found the secret (not really a secret) to maintaining good home brew is to keep the machine clean with a descaler/decalcifier.
Even bottle water which we use out here in the country will scale up the water heater in a short time producing off-tasting brew.

Yeah, that ^ It's time to clean mine. Breville recommends distilled vinegar. Need to run plenty of water through afterwards!

Breville products are great, well thought out. I have a kettle and an oven made by them. Their plugs are such a smart idea.

Ever try distilled water? Here they sell it in the grocery store along with regular mineralized water. I use distilled water in my instrument humidifiers and car radiator. I prefer the tase of naturally mineralized spring water.

Never considered drinking distilled water....guess it could not hurt you.
For us, it is either Ice Mountain for regular bottle water or Pellegrino for a zesty taste blast when you need one in the middle of the night from snoring with your gob wide open.

Distilled water has minerals removed, you more than make them up in your food. Eat a mango. But distilled water tastes bland, don’t know how it affects the taste of coffee.

Snoring with your gob open.... Slobbering is fine, dry mouth isn’t good for your teeth. In the elderly, 30% of tooth decay is due to dry mouth. When you get up to pee, it never hurts to swish some water all over your mouth. Medication can cause dry mouth, some foods and alcohol late at night, sleeping on your back.

I love the metallic clang when ice cold mineral water hits my teeth. "Gas, no gas?" is what they ask the English speakers at the dinner table. Gerolsteiner is pretty good in the States, I like the offbrands Lidl sometimes offers.

Looks like I'm in the first eligiable group for vaccines as they become available.
