Get off my LAWN! "Grumpy Old Farts"

There should be a service where you can sign up: so that in the last 10 years of your life expectancy they come to kill you in climactic and creative ways.

So one day, your weary old bones are sitting on a terrace, drinking some ice tea. Then suddenly a knight on horseback appears. He unsheathes his swords and swiftly beheads you.

Imagine your grandchildren on the playground the day after. "Dude, dude, dude! You'll never guess what happened to my grampa!"

The Twilight Zone episode The Obsolete Man had that hook in the story line.

So that nature can feed of the human body the same way we fed off of nature.

Yes, exactly.

Actually, I unaskingly was told about the practice and its ideology by an informant :bag: Later on confirmed by ethnographic readings that the practice was widespread

Of course, cremation and variants like cremation pit burials also mark transformation of some or other sort.

At times there is very moving findings like the figurines intentionally made to explode in Dolní Věstonice. Not to speak of some of their burials. Central Europe must have been a highly interesting place during these times

I'm working overtime to think of a book, or a movie — or even a lunch pail graphic — that depicts a future I'd want to live in.

Of course you could always get zapped out of existence for your 30th birthday in a Logan's Run future. No body left behind to inconvenience friends and family, no maladies of advanced years :cautious:

A local distributor in the country has a large tank farm. They add additives and blend their products there. I've seen their trucks delivering to top tier rated stations as well as bargain stations. They have their own stations and they don't carry top tier gas there. I wonder what you are really getting. What controls are in place so that when they deliver to Esso for instance, it is top tier. I wouldn't put it past a station owner to buy a lower quality product for the sake of profit. I know that Shell tanker trucks deliver to Shell stations directly from their refinery.
Often the drivers carry an additive that is put in to the tanks as they put the dinosaurs back into the ground.

I'd like that, too...but the paperwork is done, and my family is prepared.

I've opted to donate my body to a school of medicine.
Young Doctors-To-Be can look around in there and learn.

It precludes donating organs to individuals, but it might come in handy if the youngsters ever bump into a patient with one ginormous kidney who smoked for 40 yrs... has battled peripheral neuropathy for 20+ yrs, and who needs hearing aids ( fo sho!).

The medical school cuts you up for up to a year, then cremates the remains, and invites all the families to come to a memorial, where they give the ashes back to the kin.

I told our son that I want him to jump the fence and throw a handful of ashes behind 2nd base at Wrigley Field...he said 'Daddy, I'm not going to JAIL for ya!"

There was a medical dissection lab where I worked, they always treated the remains with dignity. As you said, after a year there's a service and internment. Prior to the beginning of the year, you hang embalmed in a morgue so it could be up to two years.

That's very nice to hear. I'm am not religious or "spiritual", but I like these practices that show respect for life and death.

The people of Belgium have always looked after my uncle. I deeply appreciate that.
That's nice to hear.
We will never forget the immense sacrifice of the people that liberated us.

There are lots of WW2 memorials, especially in the Ardennes, where the battle of the bulge took place. We and lots of bikers we know (my clientele) go riding a lot in the general area. And those memorials are always beautiful places to take a rest. Not to gawk at the graves, but sincerely think about fallen soldiers and show respect. Would be cool if I could do more on my part.

My utmost and highest respect for your uncle.

Another end-of-life alternative:

This reminds me I have to clean up some closets in my living room. I've got the DVD of Soylent Green somewhere. I once lend it out to a couple of family and friends and nobody likes the movie. Philistines!

With all the remakes they are doing, why haven't they done one for this movie? Would love the see the riot-control scooping machine scenes in a modern remake.

Teddy as I recall. A gentle looking dog.
Yes, he was, really, but his look was good for the Labwork Security job he held.
...'74 Karmann Ghia (coupe) ...
My first (real ;)) girlfriend had one of those in some sort of mustard yellow (IIRC).

You'd think that they'd know better than to eat at fast food places.

Note that there are no Ferraris in that parking lot. :D

[BK]Their fish sammich used to be 'OK', but I haven't had one in ~10 years.
That was the only thing I'd eat there, and haven't been into one of dem kind of "food" chains in at least 15 years.

Some animals prefer to go out into the woods to rest when they know that their time is near. Like you said, a last gesture of kindness to spare you the grief.
A friend of mine (the one who had the non-running Fiat 124 Spyder) had a cat named Ghin [sp], who holed herself up inside the wall of his apartment!

I've opted to donate my body to a school of medicine.

Taught him well, I see.

...the Ardennes.
Ever go to the race up there?
Well, if you're really hungry in a dystopian future, there's A Boy and His Dog.
Fun movie! :D
