Get off my LAWN! "Grumpy Old Farts"

In about 1977 we were playing the Jackson, Mississippi Airport Holiday Inn bar and lounge. Lawrence Welk was playing a one-nighter in the ballroom. Some of the players were in the bar after their show and we got to talking with them. The guitar player, Neil Lavang, spoke to us a bunch. He had done a lot of recording and film and TV work. One of his credits was on Zappa's "Freak Out" album. Talk about a dichotomy! We didn't get to meet Lawrence.

Another time playing that venue the Count Basie Band was playing the ballroom. On our breaks we would run over to catch what we could. It was great stuff. We also met folks from The Outlaws, America, and Elvis's road crew . Elvis's crew was staying at the airport and Elvis was staying downtown. They rarely got to see him. He had 3 floors of the downtown hotel rented to isolate him from the rest of the world.

There are certain stores that I hate dealing with. Years ago I bought a couple of La-Z-Boy chairs. Thought that I'd be comfortable for life, turns out that they were a disappointment, but that's another story. Their business model at La-Z-Boy is based on a used car lot, it must be where they find their sales staff. What a slimeball company.

In the end I went with a Tempur-Pedic ProBreeze mattress. The problem with Termur-Pedic is that stores carry some models that nobody else does so it's hard to get a price matching deal. I went to two places and felt that I needed to wash afterwards. At the third one, I found a salesman that wanted to deal. He told me what the ProBreeze is called in other stores, surfed the net with me and after finding the best price, matched it plus 10% off. It worked out to less than half of the store listed price with tax. Still expensive enough though.

All mattress places seem to offer price matching. He also said that they want people to pay full price but with price matching people don't. Mattress places seem to have the same used car business model as La-Z-Boy. Reading the Termur-Pedic warranty is page after page of why they won't honor their warranty. By the way, Tempur-Pedic is owned by Sealy. What a business.

Despite all that, my back is happy with the product. I'm glad that I probably don't have to shop for a new mattress again. You know what I mean.

I would have rather bought a Samsung large screen TV than a mattress.

Man, you aren't kidding. They have fallen so far from what they used to be.

I'll never buy anything from those people again. :cautious:

I am hoping I don't have to be a new mattress for quite some time. I have been a salesman most of my working life but, I do not like dealing with them :rollno:.

We're lucky here, with several Original Mattress Factory locations around Atlanta. We've had great results with the mattress we got from them, and never a hassle buying there.
