Last class tonight until the summer term. Everyone is supposed to pick a tune from the Real Book. I'm picking Afro Blue - Mongo Santamaria.

The original version with flutes and woodwinds is much better IMO! This didn't sound much like Afro Blue to me until about 4.30 when all that annoying brass fades out and the cat with the shakere duets with Mongo...

I've seen a ton of movies in my life, but few movie events were as memorable for me as the release of Young Frankenstein. I was a student at UW-Madison, and they picked it up for showing at the student union theater. My buddy and I went to the early show, only to find it sold out. We managed to get two tickets in the back row for the late show, and went back to his frat house (SO much like Animal House ), fired up the bong we made from a discarded water-based semi-vacuum creator thingy we 'found' around the Chem building, and listened to a 6th-gen cassette copy of the Crepitation Contest. Then a couple of shots of te-kill-ya, a couple more bowls and we headed to the movie.

About the hardest I'd ever laughed in my life.

I embarrassed my girlfriend in the theater when I came absolutely unglued when Inspector Kemp threw the dart through the window and the cat outside screamed. I watch the movie again whenever I find it.

Always liked Johnny Carson. Tried to like Leno but he simply wasn't that funny on the show.

The comedy roasts used to be funny back in the day. The ones in recent years are mostly a curse fest just for the sake of cursing and poorly written and delivered jokes.

I watch the movie again whenever I find it.

Ooohhhhh, don't get me started. One of the greatest comedies of all time. I've seen it so many times I can quote whole sections. Had to be the third or fourth time I saw it that I stayed to watch the credits and realized the blind man was played by Gene Hackman...."WAIT!....I was going to make espresso!"

On the subject of tequila, there's a new tequila based drink that's 'trending'. It's a double shot of very good tequila and a feather. It's called 'Tequila Mockingbird'. (I'll see myself out now.)

Class struggle as in obreros levantando contra los patrones, or class struggle as in trying to interest hyperhormonal 16 year olds in the historical roots of the Vietnam War? Seen both, actually.

I recall one bit, he didn’t say a word. He came out and people were laughing. He made expressions like he was going to say something. Paused. People laughed. Another pushing the envelope moment. I suppose you had to see it to understand, but it worked. He entertained.

When playing live, I always think of myself as an entertainer putting on a show over being a musician. The band is the party.
