I've only had the chance to see him once, back in 1975, as irreverent as ever.
The Hello People opened for him, and odd but cool combination; they were a great band. 
Young Frankenstein has a stellar cast.
A man after my own heart, I like sophisticated humor myself. The Three Stooges were perfect, Laurel and Hardy were a little high brow.

Two comedy titans, Peter Cook and Dudley Moore
As much as I like both, I guess I am more in the high-brow comedy class.
Like I said, 3 times. Made certain I peed b4 he came on. His 'observational humor' was terrific. Coupla examples: "At the airport when they announce 'you may now get on the plane', Screw that . I'm getting in the plane. Let Evel Knievel get on the plane" or "why do we call it 'throwing up'? If we threw up, we'd hafta get outta the way." He could take everyday expressions and show them to be ridiculous.
The 'Stooges' timing was impeccable.
So, b4 ALB asks for a roll call, our band copped a kinda last minute replacement gig for Friday at the Ft. Pierce, FL, American Legion(we've been there b4-now we'll be there again

oh cool a fox kit just went by
seems to me a lot of these comedians bracket in some age range of ours. Abbott and Costello and all what are to me my childhood. George Carlin is who I laughed with as a young adult. As an official senior citizen at a not even newly-minted 65, GoFs make me laugh.
Absolutely I know people who turn on MeTV and spend their evenings with Gomer Pyle after a hard day of 40s movies. Can make no accounting how what I absorbed from the box over the years might be still interesting to me. Done, and done. No great fascination for me.
The nasty part of all that programming as a musician is once I know a melody I always know a melody. Whether I take time to pick it out on an instrument is another deal. There's a lot of commercial jingles free floating in rooms of consciousness I don't normally wander into. It's a shared field when enough of us hold the same memory if the opening theme of The Aadams family.
Since we're bass players, that means if it's a song that's stuck in my head it's going to be stuck in your head too. Ain't too hard to work in an Aadams family rhythm into a groove, and they're never going to be the wiser
fully vaccinated means makeup beyond the Zoom room
Eyeliner pencils are standing by

I keep thinking I see a new thing in "how to be cool"...seems like the new trend in showing off is to find something wrong with everything anyone has, does, makes, sells, or says. Anyone else see this, or am I just being a GOF?

I do, and think it's because so many people are unhappy with themselves for whatever reason. Looking inward is too painful, so they look for relief by mocking someone or something else. Snark and meanspiritedness have replaced good-natured kidding.
Yes, but since every joke has someone/something as the 'butt' of the story, ppl are overly sensitive to damn near everything.
