I'm so close to cutting the TV cable.

I get hundreds of useless channels. The other day I worked it out, I watch shows over 11 channels. Three of the channels there's one show on each that interests me. One thing that they do that really irritates me is that every once in a while they take away channels and substitute something else. They do this without notifying me. I assume that a contract must run out so it goes away. One package is 15 channels that I select, four of them were changed for things that I'd never watch. Anothere package was 16 channels, over the years it seems that everything was changed out except for one. Today I rearranged selections and got the bill down a bit. I feel like I'm spending a lot every month for nothing.

Since I have unlimited fiber optic internet, I'm thinking of getting Amazon Prime video with an added option or two. I want 4K resolution. Not sure if Netflix would be better. All I really want is some old movies. Other network channels I can get for free via apps on the internet and cast them onto the TV. I seems like it's just a bit more work involved.

If what you primarily want is old movies, I'd get the TCM (Turner Classic Movies app) for whichever way you go with hardware.

For streaming subs, I have Netflix and Disney+. Amazon Prime Video comes with Amazon Prime, which I've had since inception (2006 IIRC). A 4K Amazon Firestick is $50 ($25 on sale). Works great over wireless. If you order one from Amazon, it will show up already registered to your Prime account. You can then install the free TCM app.

How you get your live TV is a whole other can of worms.

You put it to good use. I have trouble throwing out scraps of wood for fear that one day I'll want a matching piece.

What's with the green painted floor?

I have a pretty good scrap wood collection myself. I have trouble tossing it out. Who knows when you might need that 13" piece of quarter round or that 7x15 piece of 3/4 plywood.

We have plenty of scrap wood piles in various areas in the house, too. Some of it is cut-offs from the renovation jobs, so some really nice quarter sawn white oak mixed in with with other stuff (Douglas fir and oak from 1917 along with more recent poplar and red oak, too).

As to the green "paint", It was mastic to hold down carpet padding, but - the first owner of the house was Irish, so you never know! We still have original (1917) green painted window and door trim in some places.

My wife and I are at $58 per month on CC in the US. If/when we travel to Canada, I understand we will need a T-Mobile chip. Don't know what that will cost.

SIMs from CC are free. You have but to ask, and they'll send it right out. Also, I'm not sure, but I think you can go to their location in a Target store and do the same.

I've signed up for amazon prime today. I have TCM with my cable so when I drop it, the app would be good to have. I checked into the firestick, not sure if I'd need it with a 4K smart tv. I seem to have limited access to apps on the tv, I need to sort out why. Searched for tcm, nothing came up. Not sure where the tv is looking.

I've haven't found a way to watch anything current from The History Channel for free. Just as an example.

Often texting is less expensive but there are data concerns unless you have unlimited. Then there is facetime if you are going apple to apple, just data.

No, Beans, CC is ok in the US. If I travel to Canada, they say I need a T-Mobile chip in my iPhone. They did not say what my service would cost while there. Guess I will have to check .

We've had UVerse from my former employer since 2010. Pretty reliable. Internet and phones from them, too.

Speaking of phones, we'll have to give up our flip phones by Feb '22 when 3G is no longer supported. Oh, well. We saw this advertised on the TV the other day - Galaxy Z Flip & Z Flip 5G Folding Smartphone | Samsung US

We'll have to go to the former employer store to do the touchy feely and see if it's worth the price - $1200. yikes.

I got a notice from AT&T about the 3g /flip being NFG by Feb. I called to ask for some clarification. The young lady I spoke to was very helpful. Maybe more than she was s'posed to be. She informed that they have a program called "The 3g Sunset Program", which the folks in the store don't tell you about 'cos they don't make their commission(not my problem). You get an iPhone SE, FREE.(Free-free, free-free-free). Guess what I'll be doing.
