Get off my LAWN! "Grumpy Old Farts"

While I'm not applying for a number, I'd like to request that I be accepted into the training program. I'm 42 and have been learning the ways of true grumpiness for about 10 years now (coincidence that my oldest child is 9? I'm not sure). I've been forced by Mrs. basscooker to quit two bands, and sell or store most all of my gear. The music room that was well under way has now been dismantled for use as a storage unit for her and her family's hoarding excesses, and I've now been given the warning that the Ampro needs to go. As it is, the only time in the past month I've been "allowed" to touch my bass was about 10 minutes long, because I had to cook dinner for the kids--- she was too busy doing whatever it is people do on facebook. My headphones have been confiscated by the little ones, because they like to have volume wars with their tablets, so I was "told" to give them up "for the better good". Sad. I'm getting grumpier and grumpier.... I figured I'd just go on ahead and submit my application for the club.

Hope all turns out OK, B-string.

I hope you are exaggerating. My wife and I are life partners; neither of us pushes the other around. Everyone should be so lucky.

I, too, hope it isn't that bad basscooker. With the cool old gear you have, I thought you already were an old guy. :)

You gotta draw a line somewhere man, the Ampro stays.........or, failing that, I'll keep her safe and sound, make beautiful music with her, and give her back after the kids are grown.;)

Not exaggerating, but I cave pretty easy and she knows it. All she or her family have to do is bring up "because the kids..." and I cave. I want my mini-basscookers to have a real childhood, and not have the "not-great" childhood I did. Drawing the line usually just causes the kind of stuff that made my earlier years not awesome.

But the reasons for this or that aren't the issue as much, I just think I'm a qualified candidate for membership. :)

Part of having a great childhood is learning and playing music with your family. We had a family band. Not just fooling around at home either. We practiced, worked up set lists, booked real gigs at supper clubs, vfw halls, etc. and played them. Was making $50 a night playing my bass when I was 13. It was one of the greatest things my Mom and Dad could've done for us.

Of course, you're going to need some gear for that, and not just bass gear either, but a bit of everything.:smug:

My mother and her sister were local radio performers in the 40s.
I have childhood memories of the weekly jam sessions that took place in our living room.
I was playing for pay before I was old enough to drive.
My oldest son and his wife operated a project studio and karaoke business before his health went bad.
I currently play in a band with my two youngest sons.

When my wife starts getting snarky about my bass playing, I'll hide her teeth for a couple days.

She learned pretty quickly that if I get to shake the walls of the house every now and again with my bass, she gets to do more than lick the salt off of some peanuts.

Now if I play way too much, she gathers the neighborhood dogs and lets them use our front yard as a communal urinal.

We call it balance. :scowl:

My son has a drumset (he's 7, so all that's set up right now is the snare and a throne), and my daughter has a guitar and amp.. we get to "rocksmith" occasionally (she's also a state champ in gymnastics-- in the middle of a season right now, so the guitar is on the back burner). The family band is in the works-- hence the aforementioned music room. I won't deny that I had lots of gear that wasn't being used-- PA stuff (well, no, sweetie I quit the bands, I can't use it now, but...), recording stuff ("now that you don't have a music room, do we really need all this stuff?") etc, etc... There's just no response to the "for the kids" logic except "yeah, ok". I probably should have just posted any one of the other 50000 reasons I'm a Grumpy (almost) Old Fart. Living in the hood, being broke, problem tenants, cats that prefer to use my GB stack instead of the litterbox, the IRS, my work dropping insurance, the weather blowing up my utility and fuel costs, etc.

To B-String...... Hope things work out for you and until they do, Best wishes from me and the missus. Oh , and thanks for all the good info I've stolen from you over the last year or so. Thanks to you and some others in here some people I know are starting to think I actually know what I'm talking about. Heck , I'm even starting to think I know what I'm talking about.;)
