Get off my LAWN! "Grumpy Old Farts"

@Passinwind did you get in the full eclipse?

We should be at ~98% right at my house in about an hour and a half. I'm not planning on braving the potential mess in central OR to get that last 1-2%, but plenty of my friends are. Just about to build a DIY pinhole viewer or two though. Too many bogus "eclipse glasses" floating around to take any chances...sad!

Anyway thanks again for helping out. Reverb or eBay didn't really even cross my mind as a resource to look for info about these, and that's where they came from, haha.

I found that link via a Google image search.

I've been in a full eclipse. IMO even 80 or 90% is just as cool. Looks like flourescent lighting gone bad, that darkish blueish light.

Seinfeld to Kastanza, regarding female anatomy, "THEY'RE LIKE THE SUN!!! GLANCE, DON'T STARE!!!" after George got in trouble with one of his would be GF's for gawking.

Played a gig at a local bar last night. Did one set and then had to stop for the boxing match. When it was finished we played another set and were done. Played my fretless six string sgain, the same one pictured above, which is a dream to play. After eating my sandwich, which my wife had made for me, I got to bed about 3:30! A bit past my bedtime but I enjoyed playing. :) A lady at the gig said she liked my bass! :D

What’s happening? Ten days and only me posting anything? I feel lonely

I'm just a lonely boy
Lonely and blue
I'm all alone
With nothin' to do

I've got everything
I need antibiotics
But all I want
Is someone to post

Someone, yes, someone to post
Someone to reply to
Someone so bold
At a moment like this

I'd like to hear
Somebody say
I'll give you my posts
Each night and day

I'm just a lonely boy
Lonely and blue
I'm all alone
With nothin' to do

I've got everything
You could think of
But all I want
Is someone to post

Somebody, somebody
Somebody, please
Post something to me
I'll make you happy
Just wait and see

I prayed so hard
To the heavens above
That I might find
Someone to post

I'm just a lonely boy
lonely and blue
I'm all alone
With nothin' to do

I've got everything
You could think of
But all I want
Is someone to post

With apologies to Paul Anka

It would have been SO perfect if that post was the last ever for this thread. Last GOF out the door, someone turn out the light...

Sorry about the lapse. Must have nodded off!

Actually, I did, three or four times. Thankfully my long-suffering called an ambulance.

Dehydration after a bout of gastro-enteritis. My BP dropped to 74/57 standing, which triggered a couple of fainting spells. I'm more or less on the mend, although they're still a little concerned over my Creatinin count a week later.

Still, I'm feeling fortunate, given the news around me. A good friend has an Aunt in a medically-induced coma after her intestines ruptured, my pastor has been diagnosed with an aggressive, non-treatable stomach cancer that's already spread to his (one) lung, and my son (the one with CF) just came back from his first-ever summer camp with a lung infection.

At least the weather sucks (mandatory GOF content)...

Woah. Tough times. I'm glad you are on the mend!

Sorry that you are going through this stuff, Steve. Speedy recovery!

I've kind of been away but posted a few about Eden and other things. I'm sorry some of our gofs having family and personal issues
I just joined a trio last week. We practiced at a house and I brought my MB200 and Eden EX110. It sounded incredible for such a little system. Tonight we played in a converted commercial building to a small crowd. Still one Eden, but then the GK MB500. I think after we got loud, I still only pushed the amp to about 45% with everything flat. The band got loud and the bottom end from that little cab was incredible. Next week we're opening for another band and I'll be using the MB500 and two EX110's. Portable thunder!

It's really fun playing a trio. I'm playing a lot of straight 8's but we play a few cool songs like an instrumental version of Little Wing that allows us to drift off in jazzy jam heaven. Lots of fun. All GOF age guys so there's no attitudes and all friendly confident playing. Gotta love it!

It seems to be the nature of the times, and I'm not just talking about the way the people around you tend to start dropping like flies once you hit GOF status.

What with illness, accidents and hurricanes, it seems that there's never a shortage of things to pray for these days. A young woman in our congregation had a bad car wreck this winter, that left her underwater for over 20 minutes. Her injuries were severe, and she was in a medically induced coma for weeks. Thankfully, she experienced an incredible and full recovery, but that was only the start of it.

I've got friends and customers in Florida and Texas. Our pastor was recently diagnosed with terminal cancer, and we have a ton of other serious and even life-threatening illnesses between our congregation and their extended families. One of my sons recently experienced his first diabetic seizure, and is currently recovering from his first really significant CF-related lung infection.

These are all people in their 50's and down, so it makes our minor aches and pains seem pretty insignificant...

Well, that was a trip. I only ever knew Iron Butterfly as the guys that did In a Gadda da Vida.!

It’s actually "In A Garden Of Eden” but they were so drunk or stoned they couldn’t pronounce the words properly! :D

Steve we had a news item very recently about a new way of treating CF patients. Probably no help but:

I'm not having any issues. Everyone around me is. I can't wait for this lovely weather but otherwise hellish nightmare of a summer to end!

I listened all the way through, waiting for the big hard-rock freakout!

1st, Steve sir, I hope your health issues are well behind you by now. I've had my share the last 5 years or so. It sure sucks the fun out of things!

2nd, Iron Butterfly is some pretty mellow stuff more or less. Highly recommend you drop what you're doing, and go listen to Heavy, Ball and side 1 of In-A-Gadda-Da-Vita (the entire side 2 is the song, "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vita"). One of my favorite psychedelic era groups. I think they are still going with mostly alternate members IIRC. Early Pink Floyd is another favorite of the era, but it scares my wife and dogs a bit too much. Ummagumma has been banned from my house. Well, when SHE's here :D I see it's been remastered, I've only heard it on LP...

Sir Paul, the accurate, true, however in church it's normally sung with the original lyrics. As you know, it's a love song.

Erm, might best not have a GOL (Grumpy Old Lass) on organ...

On a happier topic, it’s a beautiful day here. I just got back from a long walk, took me an hour. :)
Echoing your happy diversion, I played a great gig last night and have another one coming up a week from today. Even happier, we have really nice sunny slightly cloudy weather here in Sitka Alaska. The streams are full of salmon and lots of salmon bakes going on. Ever had bbq salmon with onlins and bacon on the barbie? To die for. drool
