Brother Steve, did you check out some other Iron Butterfly tracks? I opened youtube out of bored insobriety and this was a recommended video. 1999. IIRC there would be two original members by then, way different sound, but still keeping the awesome psychedelic era alive!

My Dad flew in the tail gunner position of those things. The shorter guys always wound up in ball turret or the tail.
Before politics and political correctness quagmired the fun out of everything, the Confederate Airforce was based right here in Midland, by God, Tx. There were B17s fully restored that flew airshows, etc, and if one played their cards right, one could hitch a ride when they went on their pre-show sorties...

Excellent memories of the B-17. I'm 65 but still working--mostly with kids. In local city government. I need to remember these kids don't know what I'm talking about most of the time. There's one guy who's a PD Tech and he and I were talking about planes. He knew a lot and I asked him if his dad was in WWII. Nope he said, but his Grandpa was! Boy I'm starting to feel old amongst the young'uns.
On a different note-- wife went to the clinic yesterday for a minor issue. She was wheezy and the Dr. asked her how long she'd been extra wheezy. Two weeks. Long story short-- atrial fibrillation. Here blood pressure was high. Well, we moved to the ER for three hours until finally going home. But it really is upsetting to go for a minor issue and end up in the ER. Then while we were there an 85 year old man was brought in and making all kinds of horrible noises. Cardiac related. Wife and I exchanged some sharp words on the way home but I realized we were both scared and shaken. She went to bed and I kicked back a half pint watching a movie and passed out in my recliner. It isn't life threatening, they say, but I guess what the issue is her two halves of her heart sometimes don't beat together and she doesn't get enough oxygen in her system.
Sorry for the rant. Most of my friends my age are gone. It's nice to share here with you GOF's and I know you understand. Well, the fix is a medicine she's already taking she has to double one at morning and one at night and it should be ok. But now she has to add Warfarin blood thinner, and that is kinda scary. Anyone else here take Warfarin? The doctor said it's a tried and true pill. Anyway, happy Saturday GOF's hope you have a good day...

On a similar note with a similar story , Seahag (my lovely wife) is currently on Xaralto , also a blood thinner similar to Warfarin but it doesn't have to be monitored as closely. About a month ago she started experiancing pains in her upper back. Went to the local Doc a couple of times and had a bunch of tests run on her. Nothing conclusive showed up from the tests. Symptoms got better for about a week and then returned with a vengeance. She got up on Sunday and told me to take her to the emergency room. Off we went. They ran a bunch of tests and again nothing conclusive came up. The last thing the doc did was a tap test on her back and when he hit a certain spot she nearly came off the table. This led him to send her for one more set of tests which came back positive for blood clots on both lungs. Instant admission the the hospital and started immediately on blood thinners. The next day she was feeling much better , all vitals had stabilizes and she was sent home. The medication was taken twice a day for the first 4 weeks and is down to once a day now.She will be on medication for another couple of months but is back to work and just as ornery as ever.
Scary part to follow: Two days ago we attended a funeral for Jailbaits (my lovely daughter) boyfriends Aunt. She was 38 and died from what appears to have been a blood clot that moved from her lung to her heart. She had been complaining of symptoms similar to my wifes for about a week.

That is scary. Your wife may have been very close to that fate or a PE. Any blockage in the pulmonary heart-lung circuit is serious business. Nope. She's down to Xaralto once a day instead of twice. That should go on for a few more weeks , then another check and if everything's clear , that should be the end of it.
While the subject is medical, here is an update on my hearing challenge. It's taken over two weeks but I'm finally improving. The tinnitus is now a low pressure steam leak instead of the two weeks of a high volume hiss. My hearing is ALMOST back to pre infection levels, but not quite there yet. I'm back in my little studio probably mixing down with enough treble to shatter glass. I lost some high freq hearing so I will have my 17 year old daughter do quality checks on any final mixes.
We just picked up a Xarelto today, 20mg once in the evening. Wife's very upset about it. She doesn't want to take it and feeling pretty scared about clots but even more scared of side effects when we were told of bleeding, blood in stools, etc. So how did your Dr. determine your wife could gear down on Xarelto? We are living in a very small town and we feel like we're getting best educated guesses on her treatment. We also read that if she changed her diet, drank more water, and a glass of grape juice a day she could avoid clots. I know you're not a Dr. but any thoughts from your experience would be appreciated.

The side effects from Xaralto don't seem to be anywhere near as bad or easy to be induced as from other blood thinners such as Warfarin. I've known a couple of people over the last few years that took Xaralto and none of them had any major problems with it. Yes , the side effects are possible but in my experience (remember , I'm not a doctor , I only play one on Halloween) I've never seen them manifest themselves to cause any major problems. As to more water and grapefruit juice , if that worked as well , why didn't the doctor order it? "Cause it's not a proven solution and he knows that Xaralto is better. And as to your wifey not taking the Xaralto.....Yeah Xaralto may have some side effects and she may or may not have any problems with them (as stated before , I haven't seen any crop up from the few people I've personally known that took the stuff) but the side effects of NOT taking it are , she develops a clot , it moves to her brain or heart and she strokes out or croaks. I find these side effects a whole lot worse than a few blood spots in my poop.
So to Alaskaleftybasswife I say , "Take the damn medicine or I'll turn the Seahag loose on ya , and after 28 years with her I can say for certain that the side effects of that are far worse than the side effects of any medicine you take."

If anyone in similar circumstances needs a little encouragement, this is my dad's story:
- Won a full-pop scolarship to Cambridge on violin and viola just before WWII, while he was still in grade school.
- Felled by a double ear infection, just before he wrote the last of his university finals.
- Punctured eardrums on both sides, nearly gave up music due to distortion and pain from loud sounds.
- Found that while he could no longer play violin because the vibrations travelled up through his jawbone, he could play guitar.
- Became an accomplished classical and jazz guitarist and teacher despite a 40% hearing loss in one ear and 60% in the other, nothing above 6KHz.
- Learned to set his amp EQ by favouring audience reaction over what sounded good to him.
- Most of the musicians he played with, had no idea that he suffered from hearing loss.
- Went on to teach and gig on a horde of other instruments, including flute, chromatic harmonica, Chapman Stick, pedal steel, bass, mandolin, and vibes.
- Had restorative ear surgery in his late 50's, was able to play viola again for a few years before he retired.

Turkeys have to be amoungst the dumbest birds out there.
A couple of weeks ago, I encountered a flock of turkeys on a narrow country road. They saw the car and the group went frantically running down the road. On one side was a forrest, on the other side a corn field. They didn’t have the sense to turn off the road. A less patient driver would have mowed them down.
