Thanks for the sympathy. All communications after the initial announcement have been very positive. The reduction impact will most likely be much smaller. And, there are contacts somewhere where the grass is apparently greener, so I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of the people would just take the severance package and start in another company next door.
I dunno, man. There’s good and bad to each side of a layoff situation. Been on both, and frankly came out better after getting laid off, even if the short term was awful. Those who held on, as mentioned above, ended up doing 3 x the work eventually getting the axe as well...

It took ten years after an initial cut in pay, but I'm about 50% on my income, everyone but one or two people I knew at the old job are now gone, no more doom and gloom that was over my head every day for almost two decades, better benefits and I get about 15% X pay in a retirement plan in addition to what I add on my own. I miss my friends at the old job, but pft, easy to replace those

Seems stress is the fuel those of a certain age (a-hem) run on lately... looming layoffs, uncertain heath matters, socio-political matters, earth gaining thru it’s cycle of fire, hurricanes, quakes all at once...
Topping it off, I’m hearing rumblings from deep underground that the disco era...yes disco...is fixing to make a huge comeback. Platform shoes, mirror balls, white leisure suits, and the most gawd awful music mankind has produced since ...ever.

I'm 69. I've had four heart attacks. I have Leukemia (Agent Orange so says the VA). I'm a fool. I'm still playing with a gigging band. I figure around 80 it should be out of my system.

Growing up is so far overrated... I did it once, several years ago. Acted like an adult. It SUCKED! As God as my witness I will never do that again
I suppose, looking back, that it was inevitable that you became a bass player. You were, after all, used to plucking on G Strings!! ;D

I was hoping there would be air travel options for the after life and honestly haven't given any thought to potential hazards related to ground travel. And like no one ever mentioned a problem with the runways, only the road.
As usual, I now see I may have missed a key point that deserved more attention than I gave it!
