I have also seen turkeys exhibit similar behavior. Any bird that can drown by looking up into rainfall with its mouth open is definitely stupid. I don't know about wild turkeys, but I have heard of 'farmed turkeys' doing this...

Spank, glad to hear (no pun intended) that you're getting better. That had to have been scary when it hit and a relief when it started getting better. Hope you make a full recovery!
My tinnitus is a permanent 4khz tone in both ears, but fortunately it's not too intense and I can ignore it most of the time. I think it's from a combination of over exposure when I was a young and foolish rocker and one (or more) of the medications I take. I discovered that I also have a gap in my hearing centered at the same 4khz, but it comes back above that then drops off for good around 12khz.

I've also heard of domestic turkeys drowning from standing in the rain with their mouths open. Never heard of a drummer doing that, but that doesn't mean it doesn't happen.
I've also never found a dead drummer stuffed into our big rural mailbox, but someone did put a dead domestic turkey in there once. I assumed it got hit on the road and someone thought it would be funny. My wife wasn't amused, but the woman who delivered our mail thought it was hilarious, but didn't leave our mail until the next day.
On the other hand, the wild turkeys around here, while dumb as hell, have pretty strong survival instincts that drummers typically lack.
Also, both drummers and turkeys have drumsticks. Sorry, but you had to know that was coming.

Yeah, yeah...pfft

One thing I discovered this weekend: the sheer joy of running direct. Bass into wireless...into pedal sized preamp...into Radial/Jensen stuffed DI...that was it. Foldback was superlative, tone was exact, loadin/load out took 45 seconds each way.

Each gig had powered wedges with a 15/horn affair, separate mix. Accommodated my old, fat, and lazy self very well

Some of the biggest shows with the best monitor and FOH sound I ever played involved nothing more from me than my bass and a Radial JDI, Countryman 85, or BDDI. When you have pro sound techs with top line gear and they take their job as seriously as you do, it's amazing what kind of results you can get by providing nothing more than a good DI signal.

I know that’s right...and nothing new, but it’s new to me. Crutches, habits, etc

Some yrs ago (04? Seems right) I worked in the opening act for Toby Keith in a rather large outdoor event. No one in his band then had any amps, just DI. There may have been a guitar pre at the FOH position, I don’t know, but the 6 string guy was using a Roland GP8 into a DI, steel bass, fiddle, and acoustic all pure DI...100K watts of JBL FOH might have helped

Being one of the 30 left behind...

I got packaged off when AT&T Canada was going through its death throes.

There were only the two of us left out of an 8-man operations management team. Six months after I left, my buddy went off on stress leave.

Same territory, same amount of work, not enough resources to handle it. It was like being on a hamster wheel, with no way to get off.
