Get off my LAWN! "Grumpy Old Farts"

Had a somewhat disturbed night and morning. Sirens last night and constant helicopter passes this morning. Turns out a rooming house full of students caught fire. Started in the basement and quickly spread upwards. An 18 year old female student from china perished. This all happened a few hundred meters from my home. A sad time. Mr Nurse, your colleagues were out in full force, bless them!

We are very close to the Scarborough campus of the U of T plus there’s a couple of colleges too. Houses in the vicinity are being converted into rooming houses in spite of them being illegal. We have at least four in our little crescent. They can be recognised by the multi expensive import cars crammed into driveways and parked on the street where there is no parking allowed.

Prayers for the souls lost and families. God bless your nurse for her part in all of it.

Some very good news for our troops still in the trenches overseas. The Air Force finally realized that they need to keep the A-10's flying, so they sent out a contract to re-wing the remainder of the fleet! I think somewhere in the neighborhood of 103 planes. Sorry that we lost 2/3 of our A-10's, the Air Force, in all its wisdom had half the fleet chopped in half (literally) and left to rot in the desert while our boys and girls overseas were badly in need of CAS. There have been rumors of a re-designed A-10 that will rise from the ashes. I hope the Air Force doesn't screw it up. Keep it simple, redundant controls, same sturdiness-- except give it modern avionics.

Here's the article for anyone who wants to read it:

The Air Force is officially asking for proposals to build new wings for the A-10 Warthog

Sad news, Sir Paul.

One of the best CAS assets of all time IMO. I've seen them return from successful missions with pieces of the wing missing. They are able to deliver unbelievable firepower on an almost continuous basis given their low altitude performance characteristics.

Just stopping by to say hi all. Setting the basses aside while I'm off on a cycling tangent, training for the next couple months to ultimately ride 300 miles in 3 days with 999 other riders, to help raise money for the Make A Wish Foundation of Michigan. It's long past time for me to do something to make a positive difference, and if I can help give one seriously ill kid a little bit of joy, it'll be worth every mile I ride.

BTW, The bass player for Lake Street Dive, Bridget Kearney, is excellent too.
Here's a live-on-the-street version of "I Want You Back" with just vocals, snare & brushes, trumpet and Bridget driving the song on bass.

Here's another impressive one with sparse, bass driven instrumentation.
