We pray for all the people who lost their homes. I hope they come out ok.

This brings up a good subject for me. Talking about pills earlier, wife and I (as you probably are familiar with LOL) have to take certain medications every day. We get one or two tsunami warnings in Sitka a year. There's been a lot of discussion about how to stock up and how to have a trunk sized kit ready for emergencies. Something that would hold extra clothes, extra cleaning supplies, and of course, all the medicines and vitamins you take in a week or ten days.

I'm going to look for a kit that will allow us to store away 10 days worth of pills for both wife Carey and me. I think that's important. Also, I want to buy a good quality First Aid kit. Not a toy white plastic thing. A metal box about the size of a manual typewriter with ointments, band aids, etc. in it. We also always have 2.5 gallon bottles handy but empty them during freezing periods.

Any thoughts on this, GOF's?

My thought is, Just Do It! Just remember to rotate your inventory of meds, water and food to keep them fresh. Used to be that here in CA, we just had to worry earthquakes. Now we have to be prepared for fires and floods as well :rollno:.

Medication is susceptable to high temperatures.
It never gets hot up there. I looked it up. 80 F is an all out heatwave. :D

Meds, I just order as early as insurance lets me and I get ahead by a full bottle (I don monthly). The bottles are airtight and I just use the oldest first.

I'm more worried about people.

Luckily, we're all OF's,and are familiar with the size of a manual typewriter:smug:

And folks say they don't wanna move to FL 'cause we have hurricanes! At least we get warnings.

Thanks GOF's for the suggestions. Given the current state of our country's weather, I recommend everyone have a survival trunk. We even have four cases of MRE's available to put in the car! I can't get Carey to do a "test drill" on quickly loading the car LOL. She says if there's a tsunami she'll make sure I'LL get the car loaded! :roflmao:

anyone have a remedy for arthritis in the fingers as it is starting to effect my playing........not fun!!

I have the same problem. Over the counter NSAID's are losing the battle, not to mention they're not good to take for extended periods. I'd be interested in a remedy. The glucosamine/chondriton pills don't do anything for me. Having more and more issues with cramping too... it's not easy getting old.

Hey GOF's

thanks
I have used some thing called "Aspercreme". It is available at any chain pharmacy. They usually have a house brand for cheaper that seems to work just as good.
I have a torn up shoulder from work abuse. Comes and goes. The pain can keep me awake sometimes and the aspercreme will take the edge off the pain enough to get back to sleep.
My 80 year old sister got good results from it too. Now she swears by some laser device she got on a shopping channel???

Oh gawd I just realised - I must be a big ugly man too!!! :bawl:

For the cramping try Magnesium capsules. Start with a couple of hundred milligrams. Watch out for the rear end. Some folk’s digestive systems kick into hyper activity.

I use 1,000mg a day, two 500mg tablets. Kirkland brand are high quality and inexpensive. I did start out at a couple hundred but 1,000 seems to work well for me. I hardly ever cramp. One time on a trip to the Lower 48 I forgot my magnesium and like a dummy forgot to take it for four days. Man did I cramp! Not going to make that mistake again.

The more we study, the more Carey and I have found that using enough vitamins at higher dosages is better for us than getting pharmaceuticals from the doctors. In Europe and Asia they are much more driven by vegetables, less processed food, herbs, and high dosage vitamins for various ailments. I think we could take a lesson from that.

guess what Blueberry muffins tonight.......man she can cook:hyper::hyper::hyper::hyper:

My wife and I were at our home-away-from-home RV this weekend when we got the mandatory evacuation notice from the fires in Lake County, CA. We were out in 20 minutes. Fortunately, our home is only an hour or so away and far enough from those infernos. My heart goes out to those not as fortunate to have the same choices. I also have a better appreciation for the fire fighters and emergency responders who put their lives on the line to save us and our property.

This afternoon we've been watching numerous fire management planes doing laps over our house. There are so many new fires here today (6 at least) that as soon as one gets under control they are all off to the next one. The 20+ mph wind felt great this morning, but one of the fires to the east of us where it's more desert like is spreading like crazy. No immediate danger right here, but the smoke factor could start kicking in very easily.

I feel your pain Charlie, similar here, more the smoke though.

We were getting smoke all the way from Redding and Crater Lake last night Andy. Then the wind shifted and got cooler, but it was still 90+ degrees here today, as it has been every day for weeks.
The biggest one today is an an area that burns seemingly nearly every year. Took under two hours to hit 1200 acres.
