All present and accounted for, but not working optimally.
Couldn't play bass or do much other than lie on my face for the last 8 months, due to a vicious bout of sciatica. Sitting, standing and lying on my back or side for more than a few minutes were all out of the question. Weird reactions with a Tramadol-based pain killer didn't bring much fun to the party, either.
Nearly lost my mind, and probably would have lost the house, if I didn't work from home- I built a home-made replica of a physio bench with a keyboard tray, put a monitor on the floor in front of it, and that's how I've been answering service calls ever since.

After physio, massage, exercise, etc., failed to help, I finally got hooked up with a chiropractor a couple of months ago, and he's been working miracles. Even my 7.5lb Dingwall was too big and heavy to play for long in my current condition, but I got a sweet deal on a little 25" Ibanez ABG to get me over the hump. Weighs 4 pounds, and sounds amazingly close to a regular electric bass.
Best of all, I finally got to attend band practices the last two weeks, and was able to play hour and a half sets without much discomfort.
Can't tell you how relieved I am. Until this latest episode, I had never been without a bass or guitar in my hand for more than a week since I first picked one up. That's 56 years ago...
Worship leader added me back on the roster today. I won't be gigging this weekend, but I'll be back in the saddle again next week!

$@%&!! medical bills...
Even with Canadian healthcare, physio, massage, accupuncture, chiro and pain meds all cost an arm and a leg. Don't get me started on what I've spent on special cushions, etc., trying to get comfortable enough to work. Plus, I had to trade my well-loved, economical little hatchback and it's sunroof in for a dagblasted used Dodge Caravan, loaded with heated power seats, power doors, etc. It's got a gym mat stretched out in the back, so I can lie down and straighten out when my ass starts to hurt too much.
Did I mention that the van is in the perfect soccer mom colour? Metallic maroon. I must have done something wrong in a past life...
All of this while having to pass a lot of lucrative IT work off to an associate.
Christmas is going to be plainer than normal this year, and I'm selling off a bunch of gear in order to pay business taxes. My 5-string PJ is gone, along with a couple of guitar amps. A bunch of audio equipment, plus my Paul Reed Smith McCarty and NS Design electric upright are on the block as well.
Still, I can't complain. No-one would listen anyway. Get off my lawn!
On the other hand, my gear list still ain't shabby. I'm keeping the Dingwall, the Ibanez AVNB1E Parlor bass (who names their models, anyway?), my modded Rumble 100 for small gigs, and the G-K Fusion/AudioKinesis rig for big ones. I'll still be able to enjoy myself on guitar as well- I've got a nice thinline Tele with a wide/fat roasted maple neck and mahogany body, along with my Karol acoustic, the Tweed Deluxe, and a Boss Katana for Metal Mondays.
Not bad for an old guy who still has his second wife and a bunch of kids who've never seen the inside of a jail cell!
