For my Soulful Sunday selection, I'll dip into that 1975 well. Billboard Hot 100 Singles of 1975

Lots to choose from. Stevie Wonder, Ohio Players, EWF, Rufus, Tavares, even white soulfulness like Bee Gees, Linda, AWB. Great year. But unlike Olivia's plea, I'm feeling ornery as well as soulful this weekend. Yeah, this one came out spring of my freshman year, and it ended a dorm stereo war once or twice (but only because Deep Purple was awol, probably at his girlfriends apartment).

The Isley’s are from Cincinnati. One of their sidemen on guitar was some guy named Jimi.

Jimi used to hock his guitar every month and force the band to buy him a new one. If they were in Cincinnati at the time, a new Strat was purchased from Buddy Roger’s Music on Galbraith Rd.

Just a little trivia for today.....

About 7 years ago for me. 20-20 distance vision after a lifetime of near-sidedness. Reading and computer glasses around the house.
same here, but: i noticed that my 'brain thing' (re: eye/hand) took a while to acclimate for playing --- partly because i was now using specs to do things i never needed correction for + having my astigmatism permanently corrected made a 're-orientation' necessary. not a big deal but i wasn't expecting it: i need glasses to read music now. but i wouldn't go back... and i'm not complaining! by cracky.

Some real stinkers in 1975, also some good songs. The Billboard #1 single of all of 1975 was a song without a bass guitar player......

No bassist on their TV appearances, because The Captain (Darryl Dragon) held the bass credits on the album.

But I can hear an electric bass doubling the keyboard line.

None of the wedding bands I played with back then had keyboards that could simulate a clavinette, so I always played it with a pick to get a little more bite...

No cataracts here, yet. Just the usual visual symptoms of aging. When I was young I was found to have 20/10 vision. They usually stop testing on the 20 point line and the only reason they tested me on the 15 and then 10 point lines was that my mom was running the test. She knew I had ridiculously good vision and wanted to know just how good. That all went to heck when I got to around 40, as it often does.

Because of this, correcting my vision to 20/20 with eyeglasses now still leaves things looking quite fuzzy to me. I was able to convince my optometrist to correct my vision to 20/15, which was the best they can do. Much better. But I would love to not need glasses at all.

Speaking of aging, yesterday we had a very belated 60th birthday party here for me. It was a blast. We have a music studio in our garage and invited everyone I've played music with in this town, as well as many others. A lot of the musicians showed up. Late last year I got involved with a little group of players who do mostly blues based standards and originals with some very tasty chops; I was their sub bassist as their regular guy, who is a friend of mine, was sick. I hadn't gigged with them or seen them in four months, ever since that guy recovered, and so I was really pleasantly surprised when they all came through the door. They had a gig last night so we put them in the studio right away and made some amazing music. Their regular bassist played my jazz through my rig and I got to sing standards and harmonize with two other singers I work with. What a fun day! The whole day was like that, with various waves of musician friends popping in and out to play music. I was in the garage for much of the day but did get around to visit with my non-musician friends, too.

At the end of the day it was decided that I'm not really 60 after all.

Apparently, next year I will be 19, which is even better.

Several of my friends who are older told me that their 60's have been the most fun years so far. I am starting to believe that :)

Happy Sunday, everyone!

I started wearing glasses for my NearsightednessI/astigmatism when I was 5.

I remember (7? 8?) yrs ago for me...I woke up in the wee small hours of the morn (feeling weird as a result of the anesthetic?) sat out in the rec room with a cuppa and got brave enough to peel the patch off my right eye!
I looked across the room...15 ft?) and looked at our copy of The Three Musicians.
I’d never seen anything so clearly, so vividly, in my life!!

I cried like a baby!! :thumbsup::thumbsup:

That's not even the half of it. My friends know me too well. We had 10 bottles to share with our guests before we even started and almost everyone who came here brought one, too. I'm sure all of it will be opened soon enough :)

At 60+ we like to take a nap on the davenport afterwards.

That there dogz is Odin, a 3 year old standard poodle. I think sometimes I'm a pet sitter whether I am a pet sitter in name or not.

Now it is true Odin is rather jealous of the cat, a 16 year old Siberian. Not all a bad thing as woke today to find Odin leaping to chase the cat out of the bedroom. Except I see this is a cat about to sick up. Leap out of bed, grab cat and make it to the front door in time, so there is no need for me to clean up cat sick before I've even made coffee. <whew> crisis narrowly averted.

The sound of a pet about to puke is the quickest way to get me out of bed!

Drink that wine...it may solve that thing with your hair color ;). I know because it turned mine all white, although I have lost a bit as well :bag::help:.
