1964 Chevy Nova for me, 2 speed slip & slide power glide transmission and 194 CID straight six.

Heh, mine was a '63 Tempest with the 2 on the dash, 4 cylinder 195 (half a 389, literally), and independent suspension. Proof that John Z. DeLorean was always bat**** crazy.

Then something more suited to the lifestyle of the times...

My first car was a 57 Pontiac Chieftan 4 dr. Paid $10 for it. Next was a 58 Rambler Super. It was Black with an Orange top. Unibody car too. It was like new inside with plastic seat covers. Inline six, auto. Paid $25 for that one.

One of my buddies got one of those with the little six in high school.

We took it out to a gravel road to do the mandatory donut testing, and found that all it would do was plough straight forward a few feet (it put the "u" in understeer), and then stall.

So of course, he put a big stereo in it. All was forgiven.

I currently have a '63 LeMans. Same car just different tail lights. We (my son and I ) stuck a 400 motor in it with a standard rear and a 4 speed tranny. DeLorean wasn't all that nuts. He made about 3 just like mine with 421's in them and the next year cranked out the first GTO's. One of those three recently went for over $200,000 on E bay. Oh yeah , mine went 13.5 @ 101 mph in the 1/4 mile at the track last spring.
I remember those old 4 cylinder engines. If they weren't tuned perfectly , they would shake your I teeth loose. Even with a perfect tune up they were pretty rough at an idle.

Oh heck , reading these posts about first cars got me feeling nostalgic. My first one was a "63 Olds Cutlass. Not real fast but it looked nice. I burned the engine up on that one in about 4 months. Next was a "62 Super Duty Pontiac Catelina. 389 , 3 x 2's , and a four speed. That was a lot of fun. Lasted about a year or two and threw a rod in it. Next came "The Beast." It was a '64 Lemans. The day after I bought it , we took out the 326 engine and stuck a 389 in it so in effect it was a GTO. Drove it like that for about a year and a half and blew up that motor. We pulled out the 389 and stuck a 428 in it. By the time I was 19 , my drivers licence had been restricted to job related driving only 3 times and I had been suspended all together twice. It filled up 3 pages.
A couple years later , I got my first Harley. By then , every cop in the county knew me by my first name. They got tired of writing me tickets and pretty much left me alone after that.

A '61 Tempest was my third car. '63 Stud Lark was my first, given to me just had to get a windshield. Wrecked the Lark at a friend's avocado grove at 15. Second car was the driver, '65 Dodge Polara 383 2 barrel.

The understeer was much less when I put radials on it, but that was in the early days of radial tires. It was still a pretty sloppy drive.

My first car was a 1967 GTO convertible with the 400HO.
Second was a 1969 Camaro SS.
Third was a 1966 Shelby/Hertz Mustang.

Sorta all been blase after that.

My 1st brand new car was a '70 lime green GTX. At the time, a guy on the cops' "known pusher" list had a '70 lime green Road Runner.
Even though my car had a custom paint job and Road Runners were plain Jane, I'd get pulled over once or twice a week. Twice on the same afternoon by the same cop!
I learned what cops could and could not do in a stop-and-search before they learned the difference between the two cars. This became a lot of fun...especially when I'd jack around some small town cop who didn't know up from down...

And now for something completely different....... my custom shop pbass got here and i am one happy camper. 59 NOS pbass with a blocked and bind 66

Just today I purchased a 1969 Univox copy of the Gibson EB-1. I traded one away, for a Traynor amp, 40 years ago. It's on the way! The Univox EB-1 was the second bass I ever played. I'd beaten the hell out of the $35.00 Silvertone and thought, in my heart of hearts, that I was going to stick with this! I traded the Silvertone and $100.00 For the "Felix Pappalardi (lookin') Eb_1! I've been looking for this guitar for 5 years. I'm giggling like a lil kid!

My beloved '67 Datsun 1600 Roadster, low top version.
Owned it for 14 years. In front of my first house.

I can't find a profile shot, but it was sweet with 4 spoke Libra Mags, headers, competition rear.

The roadsters were a blast, but the 72 510 2 & 4 door were the sleeper racers because of the 155 HP Dual Solex Carb'd, overhead cam 2 litre motor and the suspension.

Here's a '68 2000 with the taller windshield profile, but super clean.
Mine had the same mags and port window removable hard top.
