Thanks for that. Tasting the food in both cities wouldn't be bad.

The food was great everywhere I went in Italy as a kid (including Florence), but the meal we had at a trattoria in the Alps near Courmayeur was the clear winner. Unforgettable, which is a real mouthful these days in its own right!

Genoa is of course a port city and some folks are good with that. Others not so much. Depends who's looking where in time, really. These were all city-states. Italy is not that new a country and politics there is, um, something like watching city traffic.

Not to dis-recoommend Milan, it's what it is, yet not without surprises. There's a huge musical instruments museum. There's also a waterslide park. One day as my best friend and I walk in the park - the park that's in many respects no different from any other park excepting one I'll paste in at the tail of this post - that's another park altogether - this park in Milan where one may smell things familiar to any city dweller - we stop to look at a memorial of some sort.

What sort is a bit of a mystery as we work to make sense of what we're seeing. The penny droops as I say: "Napoleonic". The names we are reading are of officers who fought with Napoleon. And in this everything opens up.

My personal recommendation is explore the Lakes District. Yes.

oh yeah the other park

You aren’t allowed to flush paper in these facilities. You have to carry it over to a waste bin if you can stand the smell. There aren’t bathroom attendants.

These are in the minority, in rural areas, but they let it happen. Google “Greece public toilets”.

But, But, I thought Ancient Greece: (was) The Cradle of Western Civilization.

Oh well, those in the cradle must have had diapers...:bag:.

As a young man in the Army, I went to all the major cities in Europe and had the most exquisite cuisine. And back then the dollar was worth something! In the Army in Europe, the American Express Financial center was the big hub of activities. Sending money home, cashing checks, and on top of that, American Express offered 2 and 3 day excursions all over Europe.

Back then although the Army wasn't generous with pay, they were generous with leave. So we spent 3 day weekends going to places like Paris, Luxembourg, and various parts of Italy. We once did a three day tour through Bologna, Genoa, and Salami. On the way back we stopped in Switzerland for some swiss cheese. Needless to say we had some great sandwiches!:roflmao:

The feeling of what it is like to hold this album in your hands for the very first time is better than all the holidays put together. Can place the moment quite clearly, and to hear Help from My Friends later by Joe Cocker at Wooodstock is an entirely new can of whuppaz for what they tell us is a brain.

The beeper may be one of the most insidious management tools ever hoisted on staff. So yeah maybe okay during working hours but not okay sleeping with the beeper on the nightstand. Woe to any who sleeps through a call ....
There are some jobs where it simply comes with the territory, and you have to make a choice. Unfortunately most of my career tended to be a continually available kind of deal. Between cells phones, pagers and radios I was always reachable by someone for something, but my staff tended to manage things so it wasn't overwhelming for me. I'll admit that in my work it's understandable, but for many folks it's just a way to keep people from never completely leaving the job and getting a respite even when they really could.
