Gibson... again...

I have one more thing, don't know if it's been said or not. But I've seen people say that they wouldn't be good to donate because the electronics were too complicated, etc for students. I disagree with that. Thinking back to being in high school, if we had one of these guitars kicking around we would have had a blast with it. Students are actually the perfect group for a guitar like this, they'd be more interested in experimenting with the possibilities.
I agree. So many more options other than destroying them.

Gibson says that the guitars were unsalvageable, with all the guitars being from 2009-2011. Whether true, I have no clue. But, I do know it’s stated that they’ve donated roughly 30 million in instruments to schools and charities, and the Gibson Foundation is looking to donate one guitar a day for the next one thousand days.

Gibson stated, “an isolated batch of Firebird X models built in 2009-2011 which were unsalvageable and damaged with unsafe components. This isolated group of Firebird X models were unable to be donated for any purpose and were destroyed accordingly.”

...sell them off in a stripped state at bargain pricing for those low budget do it yourselfer guys like me who could have our moment to celebrate the butchery we created.
Or, we could celebrate the debauchery in that video. ;) Though, from a business POV it does make sense why Gibson had to do this, unfortunately. But, why a decade after they were made?
The wood can't be turned into...
It can be turned into pellets for pellet furnaces. It's not that hard to remove the thin layer of finish on the top surface.

I’d never even heard of these. I think they are wild, and kinda remind me of the Soviet era basses.

It’s also crazy how they managed to make a full size guitar look like a miniature key chain. Put a pellet chain on it, key ring, remove the Gibson logo, take a close up pic......sucker looks straight from Chuck-E-Cheese.

Did they really expect that some day they would have them all sold by now?. I could have used a few bodies to level out my trailer at the park. Custom trailer leg levelling shims.

If you haven't noticed, we're shagging our planet into a coma by doing stupid "common practice" poopie like this. It has to change.

Not sure what your “saving the planet” comment has to do with me sharing my experiences.....maybe you should petition the business community with your concerns. I’m just here exchanging views and experiences with other bassists..

well, that sucked........but I also don't understand the business backstory nor do I know every facet of the guitar manufacturing business.....its often easy for me, or anybody, to criticize something like this if all the pertinent information isn't available.......
