Gibson Les Paul Bass

i always hated but am starting to grow fond of the 70s knobs and switches and exposed metal bits era. i had an old SB that was just the raddest thing ever and i have missed it since the day after i let it go. i feel the triumph is the high water mark of that era of "damn the looks bring on the functionality"

Gibson as a company SUCKS hard, its been proven no argument there, they overprice, buy brands and ruin em etc etc.


This does not mean they make bad models, JEESE those basses and guitars are nice.

I love Gibsons, i have little respect for Gibson corp. They are just wayyyy to popular have a really strong name and take advantage of that from a business perspective.

Point made and argument done.

Les Paul basses are NICE, Tbirds while not my thing sound effing great

I don't like the Gibson corporation. At all. And I agree that they don't really give bass enough attention, considering the dozens of guitar models they have and the maybe five basses they sell.


That said, they've actually made some pretty sweet basses over the years. I've played an LP bass, it was pretty sweet. While the T-bird I played wasn't quite my cup of tea, it was still a quality bass, and one that quite a lot of people really love. The EB-3 is also a great bass. I've seen a lot of love for the RD basses as well. So to say that they've never made a good bass is ridiculous, IMO.

I've got a Gibson LP Standard '06 and it plays and sounds great. So does the P bass I play. You should play what you like to play and don't worry about it. The audience doesn't care unless you play badly and then they blame the player, ... not to ax.

I picked up this Les Paul Standard used about a year ago and I really like. It sounds HUGE with wonderful tone. I also have a Les Paul Signature which just might be the best sounding bass I have. I also have a '72 EB-3 and a '67 EB-2C and they are outstanding in their own way. Gibson has produced some great basses in the past and will again, I'm sure.

I flip a lot of instruments, haven't had many gibsons, had the SG supreme that was recent, it was ok.

I just got and sold a Grabber G3, it was sick. Not my kind of feel and I pretty much do 5s these days, but the sound is incredible. It's the kind of bass that makes me actually want to deal with a massive tube amp, cause i can imagine what that train would sound like! It's really something else.

Also, i have seen a few Les Paul 5s with flame tops, and if I see another one, I am pouncing on it! Still, I wish they'd redesign the LP bass to have a larger body with the same shape, and weight releived, cause I think that would help the dive.

On sale right now at gbase. It's at a music store in North Jersey. They had this exact same bass, last year, in "dead mint" condition, for $995. I'd offer them no more than that. I'll bet they'd take it.

If I had a grand to spend at the time, I would have bought it.

Personally, I haven't had a chance to play many gibson basses, but the ones I played, I liked. There was a 1976 thunderbird I wished I had money to buy. I did play a vintage Gibson Les Paul (triumph) bass that I liked a lot, but I don't like the LP body style for bass. Sonically though, it was very nice.

1993 Gibson Les Paul Deluxe with Bartolini active pick-ups and circuitry!! :D It took me over a year to find one of these here in England - they dont come up very often!!

Absolutely great bass, wicked tone and plays beautifully.
