Going in the studio.. having second thoughts.

I know I'm late to the thread, but if it were me in that initial conversation, the second time he told me that we would just use the Sansamp after I told him what I wanted, he wouldn't have liked the response I would have given him.

Isn't it amazing how some people will argue for half an hour over trying something, when it only takes a few minutes to just TRY it?

Seriously. He definitely took the "i'm better at this than you" chip off his shoulder after that. Made the rest of the day a lot easier :p

Wait a minute here, "were offered a great deal this time around" ....

If you got offered a great deal, then why do you guys have to pay for this?

I've got enough recording experience these days to recognize what is going on.
If someone gave me that kind of lip, I'd bring in my amp, get my right settings dialed in, play some stuff for him/her, and just point to it. "there, right there, that is what I want it to sound like. Can you capture that ?"

I can record my bass pretty well on my own nowadays, and would just tell my band guys no way, I can do better for the price of tape & a six pack of beer.

but if you are happy with it, then go for it!

i ended up only getting 2 signals. My STL 900 and the Sansamp.

HOWEVER, it took some wrangling to get the engineer to give me my own channel for the STL 900

WHY?

Seriously, he's just smooth talking you, and still plans to do whatever he wants including burying your bass lines on the master.

Is this happening at a home/project or commercial studio?

Commercial studio with an old guy set in his ways. One he "got it" all was good

Hmm okay, well lets hope so. TIP: Take a USB drive, blank CD-R, or whatever with you and have him make a quick mixed copy of the basic bass & drums tracks for you - so you’ll at least have that, before or incase your bass gets lost in the mix later. Anyway good luck, best wishes, and have fun. :bassist:

All good man. Better than i expected.

Thanks everybody!

We (the drummer and i) nailed it.

Kinda curious what studio you used?

Last Saturday we tracked 5 songs in a studio in La Mesa. The engineer was a pro, but then we did most of the stuff live and added backing vox later. He's still mixing the tracks, but we were in the studio for 6 hours, tops.
