Got my GK MB Fusion today!!!!

I just read this entire thread. Alot of good info here. So am i correct in assuming from reading all of these posts that the mbfusion can still maintain that sparkly clean headroom just like the mb500? Im looking for a really clean tone that has a bit of tube warmth without breakup. Im guessing channel B is to get that breakup?

right now im playing through an ampeg pf500/pf210 and i love the vintage tones from it but i want to get another amp that sounds more modern for when i wanna play stuff that sounds closer to say marcus miller. I have owned the swr headlite, but i hated its knob layout because you just couldnt see where the settings were on a dark stage. So im looking for similar tone to the swr stuff but also able to grab a bit of ampeg tone too.

am i asking too much out of an amp? does the GK mb fusion cover this ground?

Yes, the MB-Fusion can do that.
In fact, I use the B channel almost always, but don't dial in any breakup.

It's not "tube channel vs clean channel," IIRC, the tubes are for input gain for a and b, treb and hi mid, low mid and bass. You can make both channels sound the same, gritty or not, but, you have two you can switch b/t on the fly.

The MB Fusion seems pretty far from what I think of as Ampeg tone (as a generalization - I've not tried the pf500) and has a pretty edgy modern tone, quick response and articulation but more (quite a bit) character than an SWR IMO. I do find myself opting for one of my old Ashdowns if wanting more of an old-school Ampeg kind of vibe.

One more note on the MB-Fusion:
it's not "really tubey, at all."
The overdrive isn't tubey-to me-and it's still very much in the GK tone family.

Probably best to think of it as an MB500, with the edges rounded off, which suits me just fine. Also best to think of it as "one cleaner channel and one growlier channel," IMO. By the time you push either into "overdrive," it's not pleasant, to my ear anyway.

Don't take any of this as me being negative, cause I really like the MBF...but if you're expecting it to even be like a Mesa Walkabout in terms of tube feel, compression etc, you might be disappointed.

Haha yea im super exited about this setup. This is also my first assault with GK! I guess im comin out gunz blazing too!

I think this thing is gonna rip my head off. I keep reading and hearing about how loud GK stuff is.

I almost got the 412 too, but i thought that was just a bit too much. if I ever need to upgrade though; I know exactly where to turn. That with an mb800 just might hurt physically!

This is the first time I have ever bought anything GK so this is a new experience for me. Ive always been an ampeg/swr guy and thats why i went with the fusion for the tubes. I prefer a little warmer tone.

Yea i will definatley post my thoughts on it when I get it.



It would look silly using a 412 in a coffe shop though wouldn't it? =P

I have never owned GK before. I have used ampeg for a very long time. well, that and SWR. This really is a whole different animal altogether.

I see what people say by "growl"

This has to be one of the best sounding setups I have ever owned.

also; 500 watts my arse! This is more like 700 watts easily. So damn loud. I a/b with my pf500 and it blew its doors off. Such a better amp. The pf500 does have its place though. its just in a different league then the MBFusion.

Thumbs up GK!!!!! This is definitely a keeper.

New MB Fusion owner and fan here. I was running a 2004 Eden WT550 but the MB200 I bought as back up was very persuasive in selling me the Class D dream ;)

The MB200 was powering the drum monitor!

Great sound from the Fusion, warmer and fuller sounding than the MB500 IMO and the valve drive is fatter than the Boost also (again IMHO)
