Schindler's List was one of the most hard hitting movies I've ever seen, and Liam Neeson, Ralph Fiennes, Ben Kingsley gave outstanding performances.

Das Boot was a really gripping movie, and I've admired and liked almost all of the movies that Jürgen Prochnow starred in. I really like submarine movies!

The Counterfeiters (Austrian-German) was also an excellent movie (sub-titled). Check it out if you haven't seen it.

I've heard that said about Ben Kingsley as well, to which I can only reply:
'Wing Commander' (Prochnow) and 'Bloodrayne (Kingsley).'
All I can figure is they had a big yacht payment due...

Correct - and so was Platoon.

It's also pretty questionable whether "Inglourious Basterds" was a WWII movie in the usual sense.

In Harm's Way - Otto Preminger directs the big stars.
Murphy's War - Peter O'toole takes on a German U-boat in Venezuela using among other things a Grumman J2F Duck floatplane. Sort of like African Queen but WW2.

We seem to have forgotten a true classic, 1941.

I remember some critics hating Inglorious Basterds because of historical inaccuracies. Geesh, it's Tarantino. I always wondered if they thought Pulp Fiction and Dusk to Dawn were documentaries.
