Leo named that bass precision to play in tune more easily than playing the fretless. On the OP's list I see one guy who is known to play the fretless on recordings then morphed effortlessly into the P bass on recordings and became an icon. From the simplicity of "My Girl" to some of his more intricate basslines Jamerson played in time and with time (poly rhythmic), set up anticipation (oh, he's going to go there,,,but he hits you with a rest) and made his part so interesting that even before his name was widely known he was referred to as "that guy in Motown". I voted Jamerson. Holla:cool:
