Like I said, it says something about a genre when most of its fans are kids. I know guys into that stuff, and you are an exception.
Its like punk fans vs jazz fans.
Overwhelming majority of punk and any ____core show goers are brats in high school or just out of it.
I wasted my life in scenes in various places enough to know.
vs the majority at a jazz show are...fill in the blank....adults with better heads on their shoulder

LOL most of its fans are kids? The first grind or death bands started MANY years ago and have plenty of adult fans.
Jazz fans are adults with better heads on their shoulders? Ya sure they arent snooty elitist coke heads? NOT saying that I think jazz fans are like that. just saying that if you want to bring up stereotypes of genres it can go both ways.

PEOPLE NOWADAYS HAVE HEARD OF THE BEST OF THE BEST ARTISTS AND GROUPS FROM 40-60 YEARS AGO AND THIS IS NOT AT ALL A PRODUCT OF THESE ARTISTS BEING AROUND FOR NEAR HALF A CENTURY. RATHER THIS IS ENTIRELY DUE TO THE FACT THAT THEY MAKE MUSIC THAT IS HEADS AND SHOULDERS ABOVE MODERN MUSICIANS!
I think history only allows certain time periods where all these prolific bands, singer/song writers surface. The 60s & 70s were that time.
I think there are a lot of great new artist today, unfortunately because of the way the game is played now, we will probably never see or hear any of them.

I read Blue's comments and I now realize why so many cover band musicians are damned to playing Brown Eyed Girl, Mustang Sally, and Sweet Home Alabama again, and again, and again, and again until the "only great music came from my era" people finally get commited to the nursing home.

I am pretty sure that none of the artist on my list are conected to the songs jive has mentioned.
The concept, however, is totally related Blue.
Statements like, "If an Aretha Franklin or a Stevie Wonder came along today, they would probably never get signed." are totally unsubstantiated claims, the sort of thing pushed by tabloid newspapers, based on nothing but supposition.

I have to agree here. In fact, using Stevie as an example - he might be bigger than ever, given YouTube & the ease of self publishing.
I think the point has been made here and BW is having a bit of fun playing troll... If those who are so terribly defensive of their musical choices keep taking the bait, I suspect he'll keep providing it...
I hope I'm not included in "those who are terribly defensive of their musical choices" Harry. I just don't like to see illogical statements and opinions stated as fact. I like to listen to music from all generations. If its good, its good. I couldn't care less when it was made.
Well, whether you are defensive or not, you and I agree that there is lots of good music out there - - not all of it is for everyone, and there is no "Generational Monopoly" on good music. Hell, my dad would give me so much grief about my music and all he'd listen to was Big Band (which was, in its time, considered trash by many music critics...). I would say "Same as it ever was" but I think that today, because of the internet and improved technology, there is VASTLY more good music available to every person of every taste than ever before. What's to complain about?? That I, or BW, or anyone else doesn't like Sludge/Grind/Screamo/Death/General Annoyance metal should hardly be important or relevant to anyone. That someone decides to try to stir of grief, say like BW did with this thread... well, if folks keep posting to defend their beloved music, who's being silly now?

Damned is the right freakin' word, let me tell you. I have a personal policy of refusing, when possible, to play any Skynard... Lord, like I didn't get a belly full of that stuff when I was in High school (and I didn't much like it then, either!)

Think about the technology today........
Anyone can record and publish a song, video, etc. and get it broadcasted and distributed around the world.
But back then only people with tons of cash and connections could get a recording and publish it. Consider all the great music back then that no-one heard because they didn't have the technology to produce themselves. One of the reasons why the Blues musicians that had their songs stolen got less publicity and recognition than people who had backing, like Elvis.
