Are there coupon codes for used gear? I've never been able to get a discount on used gear. The only perk I've ever come across was that I stumbled into free shipping on a piece of used gear when I put it in my cart to check on what the shipping cost would be.

Usually, coupons don't work on used stuff, in my experience. GC used to occasionally run a 10% off sale on used items, but the last time I remember that happening was about six years ago.

Some people report having success making a lower offer than the listed price, by visiting or calling the actual store where the item is for sale. Supposedly it can work, especially if the item has been sitting awhile. Never tried it myself, though.

That's what I do. I call and ask them for 20% off and go from there. They usually at least knock off the shipping cost and/or throw in a set of strings.

If any of you are looking at the Stingray5 listed above, it is not fantastic right now. I happened to be in the Chicago area traveling and stopped in to try it and the 5 string G&L Kiloton they also have. The nut is broken and not present at the B string. The neck looks like it was never adjusted for relief (huge forward bow, crappy action). None of the notes fretted out, so maybe adjusting the truss would take care of it, but i did not have time to get them to do it while I was there. The pickup was adjusted by someone insane. The side closer to the bridge is significantly higher than the side towards the neck and the B string hits the pickup poles when the higher notes are plucked. These things may be fixed easily, but for $1500 I expected more. They did not have it out on the floor, so maybe they were getting ready to do some work.

The paint is in good shape and is a translucent dark red color - way better than the images GC has online. The neck has decent birdseye maple and the rosewood is nice. it sounded fantastic like a Stingray should. The weight was also good.

My GC story is - I got a good deal on a fender rumble 200 used from them but they charged me sales tax on the shipping cost and couldn't understand why I had a problem with that, nor did they have any interest in fixing the issue. It wasn't enough money to quibble over but it was irritating to me that they didn't really care.
