HELP! Issues with volume/burning smell from Hydrive 410 when using the LH1000

I haven't tried to play it since the incident, as I'm worried I may cause further damage; especially considering it may very well already be unprotected by warranty.

Well, I guess that's one solution. If you never use it, again, you'll never have another problem with it again. :-)

Speakers ain't all that expensive to have reconed if you burnt voice coils and they fix quick.
 
I've had both the LH1000 and the hydrive 410. I'm a huge fan of that head not so much the cab. Ignore the "1000 watts" on the cab but don't on the amp. I did play thru a peavey vb 215 (1400 watt) bridged and that's pure power but that's a huge cab. I've powered two ampeg 810's with the parallel out with a good amount of headroom left.

I remember Hartke held onto the XL speaker parts for a LOOONG time before repair parts hit the aftermarket, maybe until the patent ran out long time. OEM new is $110

OP may have a legit PITA brewing. If one got that hot..they all got the dook beat out of them. If it got hot enough to take out two, I would have zero confidence in that box until all 4 got changed
 
Yeah man, exactly. I've been looking at cabs all day and I think my best option from here is to go with the 115 500W Hydrive.

Problem is, this is my first stack and i have no idea how to do it. Everyone's saying to run it bridged and then chain in to the next, but critical thinking tells me that's going to overdrive the cab even more.

So I guess what I'm asking is, as somebody with a similar setup, would you recommend that? Cause then I'm only sending 225W to a 1000W cab and then 225W to the 500W.

That is how I would run it.... 225watts per side. You should have no problem getting loud, and it is a safe way to mix drivers... Because each cab is on it's own amp, so to speak, in Stereo mode. I think you will have to get a couple of 1/4 inch speaker cables for that on your amp, as the LH1000 only has Speakon jack for Bridged mode.

I would strongly recommend against this solution. You are far, far better off with another matching 410. The 115 will not be able to keep up. Not at all. There are other reasons but that's the biggest one.

I'd go with the 4x10, but I'm on a budget. Another cab's another cab, so as long as it can power it, I'll give this setup a shot
 
Actually no it's not that simple and can lead to crummy results. Search around here with the term 'mixing cabs' to get an idea of what I'm talking about. You may very well be tossing money down the drain if you do it. Or it may work. No way to know.

The fifteen will take a fraction of the power that the 410 will. So no choice but to amplify separately, no bridging! If you bridge, the fifteen complains before the 410 is halfway powered, net loss of volume. It will sound fantastic up to the point of blowing the fifteen because of the apparent headroom as you turn up. It's an illusion.

I would fix the 410 and put it on a riser to hear better. Quit the bridging. Turn up until it doesn't get any louder and turn down. If you ever hear it get quieter even a little you didn't turn it down enough. Stop playing for half an hour and turn down some more, never it turn up again.

Generally agree. A decent 410 is LOUD. Provided you aren't doing dumb or uninformed things with EQ. I gig every weekend with one, with a 550 watt amp, in a very loud 12 piece band. No, I'm not in a doom metal band. But it's earplug loud. No sweat at all.
