Here we go again... TB NY GTG V

I just did a quick search for flights and they're looking about 75% more expensive than they were just a few weeks ago. It's amazing how the price goes sky high (no pun intended) as soon as you get within about three months of the travel date. That probably rules me out, I'm afraid.

Anyway, it's starting to look like John is too busy with his other commitments to really get this going this year, which is a shame. On the brighter side, that will save me about $3k! ;)

Have fun if it goes ahead, people.

It's a daytrip for me so I'm pretty flexible, unlike some of the guys looking at booking transAtlantic travel... Still - there's no real confirmation it's even happening...
Then make it happen. ;)

John did this for four years running and kudos to him for that - he organised the room, the attendance, the $$$, the food, the sponsors, the giveaways, the beers afterwards, the taxi for me back to my hotel, the welcome over the whole weekend... everything. He was a total star - right people? This year it looks like he may be just too damn busy to take it on. That doesn't stop anyone else stepping up. I would love for this to take place this year, it's just a great thing for us bassists to do.

Keep checking, Bill. Airfares are pretty volatile and get adjusted a lot. Usually about six weeks out is when they tend to average the lowest.

There have been some voices from the crowd offering support - this would be their chance to step up...

I have _no_ idea what's involved. I've never attended this event. This time last year I didn't own a bass nor know about TB.

I'm not a local, I'm just local enough to make the 3-hr drive to attend. I've been on Long Island exactly twice.

If there's an entry fee, I'll commit to pay. I'll cheerlead from my side of the East River. I can probably offer transportation if there's anybody else from the Greater Philadelphia Area that wants to attend. I might even be able to bring some small items for door prizes, if that sort of thing is done.

You really need someone with a clue about what the event is about - and preferably actually in NYC. I'm glad to "support" where I can but "organize/promote" an event like this (keeping in mind that I have no idea what 'like this' means) - I'm not your point man...

Okay, mate, understood. No problem at all. I just wanted to make sure that John doesn't get portrayed as some sort of villain of the piece if he's just too damned busy to get this sorted this year as that would be really unfair after all the massive effort (and money) he's put into this event between 2008 and 2011. The guy's a bit of a hero in my humble opinion.

oh ye of little faith.....did I not tell you you that one day I would return?:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

I don't think that you should worry about the airfare Bill. Its the drinking money that always does you in :smug:

August 11 it will be. BillyBass or whatever the hell his name is, will be here people. I guarantee it. Or I will fly to England and drag his ass back here.

August 11. details to come. Oh, and the Plattduetsche is in the mist of a MAJOR renovation outside. They're building an awesome brand new state of the art beer hall.

OK? August 11 for Bills birthday. details or a different thread to come.

Never met him. Not my intention to villify anyone - far from it. I have organized/promoted similar events elsewhere. I know from personal experience the amount of effort and local contact that's required.

I'd like to think that if "someone" can commit to a time and a place, the community can take the initiative and do stuff that needs doing. I'll support where I can.

But I'm not local and I'm not that well connected here, so I'm not in a position to 'lead' anything...

I am going can anyone recommend a couple of hotels in the area? I plan on representing REV Sound and I will be bringing a few of their cabs with me.

If the event is at the Plattdeutsche Park site (Crusader's post was a little ambiguous on this point to me - he mentioned a lot of construction which would be cool if it's completed by early August...) that's less than 5 mi NW of JFK - there's gotta be a bunch of hotels near an airport like that...
