Mom's are parents...not friends.

Humans can survive months without eating....now water on the other hand. I assume she doesn't turn the faucets off when she goes to work.

Your complaining about not eating in 26 hours while people in this world are at the point of starvation that they couldn't even hold down a meal.

Dig down in the sofa...pull out 25 cents out and go buy a pack of Ramen Noodles.

Except I been learning to weld. Not in school, but getting ready for a career. It's an expensive habit, welding. Metal isn't cheap, and neither is flux. Another thing I had to stop doing when I quit my job.


@ baba: I usually wear slacks, dress shoes and a dress shirt to interviews. But that's when I can get an interview. The big thing is that there just aren't jobs here. There are GIs on the fort, and the fort provides goods that they need which they can buy. Then there are contractors, and the few stores that provide supplies for the contractors. With lots of GIs and contractors with kids, there are plenty of teenagers to fill jobs at the movie theater, grocery store, fast food places and the skate shop. All that's left are bars, tattoo parlors, and doctor's offices, all places where I can't work. I tried to get a job at the commissary, but places on post mostly just hire army kids.

I've considered this, but it's doubtful I could get in to the armed service. I have a heart condition that's caused me problems even without exertion.

@MatticusMania: Not sure I could here. I probably made too much money in the last 12 months. Arizona wants you to be absolutely desolate before they give you a dime. But, at this point I may not have much of a choice but to try again.

Seriously man, you have 3 options.

1. Get the hell back into school, get a diploma, become someone. I'm sure your mom would support you should you decide to go this path.

2. Get a job. Any job. MacDonalds, church, car wash, burger king, grocery store, music store, gun store, day care centre. Anything will do. It gives you experience and money. That's what you need to get started.

3. Do what you are doing, and collect well fare cheques. (I don't know what it is in the US?)


IMO, you should go back to school. There are plenty of places that may accept you for a diploma program, or go back to highschool and finish it off. This is the better of the three options i've given you as it can practically guarantee you a future. That is, as long as you remain focused on your goal.

Unfortunatley you can't change the fact that this is how your mother feels about the situation, and in her defense she shouldn't need to feel any differently about it. You are an adult now, its your turn to provide for yourself.

Considering your situation with the areas employment being 90% at the fort it won't be easy, but apply every where you can for any type of job (even if its picking up poo at the zoo) and hopefully one will bite.

Where do you live?...Is there a bigger town with commuting (drive, bike, bus) distance?

You aren't very forthcoming with details. We get that you can weld...(practically? or "Art"?). That you live in a military town. Honestly; I come from a military family and it seems that most military bases are surrounded by a very large support network. Roads are being built and are meticulously maintained...(too hot?...get over it,...drink plenty of fluids). And you are perceiving that your mom isn't doing her job...when in fact she is.

why not hot dogs?

anyways, like everyone else said, do what you gotta do to survive--they will all pay--albeit maybe not that much, but it would still be something...Mcdonalds and walmart always seem to be hiring--if that doesn't work, you could always mow lawns or do odd jobs/handyman work for people...you mentioned there is a fort in town--is that like the army or something? maybe you could find work there, and like others have said, the military is always an option.

lower your sights and look elsewhere, that's what i was doing

sure, i got good grades and stuff, but i was wanting to go straight into nursing, or an optical assistant etc, i had the qualifications they were asking for, however it was always someone with work experience who got them

so i looked elsewhere, to a city 20 odd miles away, sure i was applying for the same stuff without much luck, then i lowered my sights (for now!)

got myself a job in a call centre, first 9 months i was taking a 2 hour round trip to work, until i managed to save enough and now have a flat of my own in the city, a mere 20 minute walk to work

might i add, i was living with my mum in a 2 bedroom flat before this, i admit, 21 was a bit late to move out! i stayed there while i was at college and while i was looking for a job and for those 9 months

also now i have proper job experience, and have shown my worth as an employee, i now have a great looking CV and some awesome statements

basically, get yourself out there!

No, I live just outside the biggest town in the county. There's a town twenty minutes east, and a town half an hour north, but people in those towns are poor or work on the post. Not a lot of business owners in either one of them. I'm about an hour away from Tucson, and have a friend that is moving there in December and needs a room mate. But that's in December and I need to live now. Plus I have to have money to get there.

There's a town an hour east of here that's almost as big, but it's population is mostly Mexican, and Mexicans aren't very fond of black people, so getting a job there seems like a very slim chance.

You ever tried to sell hotdogs? We thought we'd make plenty of money, but people don't want hotdogs. Our biggest seller was water, but half the time organizers had a monopoly on it and wouldn't let us sell it (which is illegal here, by the way.) She wanted to sell candy, but had it at inflated prices and none of it moved. I told her lower, but she wouldn't listen to me. In the end we spent $2000 and brought in $600. A fourteen hundred dollar loss is bad no matter how you slice it. We always had people asking for funnel cakes, so we decided to sell them, but we never had enough money for the fryer.

Do you have a HS Diploma/GED. Tell us why you aren't in school.

I'll tell you this. When I was 15 and summer rolled around...my dad gave me two options. Go to summer school to get my grades up...or get a job. I got a job...I wish I had gone to summer school.

I worked at a service station...under the table...cleaning up after mechanics. It was a filthy **** job. I resented my dad for giving me those ultimatums. 15 years later a look back on it as a character builder. Again I wish I would have gone to summer school instead. Basically my dad didn't want me sitting around all summer long jerkin off.

Everyday...all of us get up and go do stuff we don't want to do. For many of us it is "job search" so we can pull a meager un-employment check. For the rest of us it's go to a job we hate. I'm injured...but have a new job lined up when I'm healthy. Unless you were born with a silver spoon in your mouth this is how the world works.

If you have to go to those towns to job search...make arrangements for a ride...you do have a driver's license right? If so...drop your mom off at work and spend the rest of the day dropping of resumes,...filling out applications. You don't have a job...so treat finding a job...as your job...

Man,wow,you guys are harsh on the young.What a different culture you and we have.I know its perfectly normal for your culture to tell these stuff to that kid but when I look from a distance with my Turkish culture,it looks like you're murdering the kid.
AKA:If it wasn't for my family,I'd be dead before seeing 22.:D

What are the differences?

Not to be ignorant but does the same hold true for both men and women?

I know nothing about Turkish culture.
