Honesty is key - Craigslist ad

Am I the only person who distrusts a complete lack of self-deprecating humor?

My complaint is that the proper term is "half-assed".

On a (semi-related) note... :smug:

Hi guys,

Ha! Exactly. I could not seriously play with a musician whom refers to himself/herself as “half assed”. Beginner? Ok - because that implies there’s a goal to improve... but “half assed player with half assed gear”? Life is too short to waste time trying to make music with someone that is making an incomplete effort. I don’t care how much “fun” it is.

Music is supposed to be fun, no?
I think this guy gets that, and hope he finds some like- minded folks.

We all have different definitions of fun. To me fun is playing with top shelf musicians who know the music and put out a tight, professional project. To some fun is getting drunk and doing more talking and drinking than playing. Nothing wrong with either, just make sure you’re with like minded people.

Maybe not. It takes a certain amount of self-confidence to advertise your shortcomings. I often refer to Redhead as "My stinky little bar band." Just as you use "Hairy-Legged Pickers."

I have $20 that says he has more ability than he's letting on.

Trying not to wax too philosophically, I could appreciate the humor in the ad. My post was meant tongue-in-cheek also. We all have different motivations and commitment levels. Those of us who are not taking this discussion too seriously are just poking a little fun.

Some folks who play instruments just want to get together with other like minded musicians and play in the garage. Cool. I've known lots of folks who play an instrument and have tons of fun without ever playing a gig or earning any money. To each his own.

But I agree, perhaps the guy is sharper than he lets on. If not, no harm done. Let's just make some music and have some fun. :D

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

I don’t know, there are plenty of good to great players that have regular jobs and don’t want to put in the work required to put together a working band, but still enjoy getting together, having a few beers and playing some music.
Considering the state of the music business today, I think that is an honest and straightforward approach.
Im over 40, have a regular day job and make 6 figures; I still love playing music every day, but I have no desire to be in a working touring professional band.

This is my situation exactly. I appreciate all the guys and gals that can make music their living, but at the point in life I'm at the post seems a decent situation. Personally I may play a coffee shop gig or the odd open blues jam, but beyond that garage basement jams with cool people sounds awesome. I have a stressful day job and 2 young kids, so the second the music thing is anything but fun, I'm not interested.
