Honesty is key - Craigslist ad

The Craigs List had not been invented yet back in 1991, we had a little weekly magazine that looked like the Auto-Trader type magazine and it was delivererd to all the Circle-K's (like 7-11), every Friday in Florida where I lived. It was loaded with musicican wanted/available. When we (usually me), placed adds in it for bass player and singer (constantly for singers), for our 80's metal hairband we had, all we cared about, and what we posted was that you needed to have long curly hair and sounded like Geoff Tate (for the singer). For the bass player, it was specified that you still needed the hair, and a cool color/attention grabbing actual bass guitar. Playing skills were never mentioned nor anything about alcohol becuase we all drank (casually), that was understood. Never anything about drugs back then in the add, no one did drugs, ever, not even weed, at least not in the circles I was in. Times have changed. I personally like that guys add, and it would catch my attention, because I am a 'beginner', even with almost 5 years bass playing now, as I never played with others yet.

What's wrong with stating your skill level and intentions? I, too, probably qualify as a "half-assed" player and though I wouldn't put it that way I make sure everyone knows I'm intermediate and not John Paul Jones or Jaco or Claypool. Even with that said, most of the contacts I've met through CL are way more half-assed than I am. So I would imagine being a half-assed player who's willing to admit their skill level might be better than you expect.

Didn’t know Craigslist still existed lol. Last time I messed around with it was all just western union money scams

You know what is interesting about what you say, 'Western Union Money Scams'? Last year I received a $600.00 check from a class action lawsuit involving Western Union having to do with exactly what you say. In 2011 I had used them to buy something from a country over by Russia, and without going into details about what that something actually was (as I knew it was just flat out wrong and most likely illegal to begin with), I got scammed. Got all my money back 9 years later.

Over the years, I’ve seen countless “player who sucks looking for other players who suck to play sucky music” ads, and either it’s just a joke or an honest assessment, no harm.
The ones I shake my head at are the clueless, pathetic, delusional, “I deserve to be a star” types...

Then, with the phasing out of ‘personal encounters’, I’m not sure if this one was for real(it’s been repeated several times), therefore kinda sad, or if she was ‘working’...

...or just a phishing expedition, like the next one, which I’ve seen in different cities with different ad copy...

This is believable(or not), as we’re definitely in the era of potential punk rock grannies:D...

I had listed some gear for sale on there years ago. And people were still trying to pull western union scams. They were like send $600 to such and ship the gear to a middle person who could then ship it out of the country and they’d pay for all of it. Trying to get me to wire $600 of my own money. Of course they never did pay and I wasn’t going to spend money out of pocket as a seller.

Gosh, you put some work into your presentation here, nice! That one girl, she's 22? Gravity has its nasty hooks in her right now, interesting to see her at even 30. Nirvana cover band, 'make it big', really? Playing Nirvana covers? Come on..it hasn't been done in the last 25 years now, its not going to be done in the next 25. I give the older gal props, while her friends are at the bingo parlor and in bed by 8:45PM, shes out in the the garage tearin it up on the short scale. Give that 36yr old girl a DEAL! Why, because she's "Beautiful"! Of course! That one guy breathing fire? I think he needs to talk to Jack Russell of Great White, which he probably already knows. Jack will let him know that the whole 'fire' thing didn't go over too well at the Station Night Club. The EDM guy, he really doesn't say what he does. Does he play an instrument or perhaps just let the laptop run on auto-pilot with Serrato doing its thing? The common denomiator here to all this non-sense (besides Craigslist) is, what I believe to be 'Los Angeles'.
