So any finish that isn't gloss is "cheap"? Just wanted to make sure before I bombard you with Fbass pics.
Personally I really like matte and satin finishes. But the other poster is right that a lot of inexpensive instruments have been finished this way, particularly acoustic guitars, so I guess that's why there's a connotation. I think done right, a matte or satin finish can make an instrument look much nicer than the standard gloss. [edit: I type bad]

You have to ungoth them.

See, I quite like that one. The shape is a bit weird, but I still like it :).

Any of the matte finishes. It looks cheap. Because it is. Hand-stained my a$$

Hey, I was gonna get my bass as a matt black (well, pearlescent black).
I got it matte/pearlescent white instead. I wanted something less stereotypical :D.

Gee, thanks. :meh::eek: :roflmao:

It's just funny to me, considering if you go to the store right now to buy some kind of clear coat, satin and gloss cost the same, at least it was that way when I was stocking paint, urethane, varnish etc about a year ago. Looking at the cheapest basses on a popular music site just now, most of them are gloss with the exception being the matte black, geared-towards-metal basses, and a couple nattys.

As a owner of many Warwick's over the years and the current owner of a Warwick, I can say they've done great job of creating some of the ugliest finishes I've ever seen in recent years. All this rust crap is just horrid looking. Hans Pee Pee Wilfer has pretty bad taste a lot of the time. He should stick to what made his basses what they are.

I think I saw this in the Mad Max Fury Road!

I think you better get a tetanus shot before playing this one.

No really bad colors for me, just really bad mixes, like lake placid blue with tort and maple board... :vomit:

Can you say "color blind"?
That particular combo doesn't bother me too much, I'd prefer a lighter shade of blue for sure, but I see what you're saying. The Ibanez TMB300 in Metallic Forest is hideous imo. Surf/seafoam with tort, ok, bold green and tort, no thank you.

What is the most horrid stock color(s) you have seen?

My entry, Fender's Antigua.

Sorry, don't mean to offend. No troll intention whatsoever. Probably great playing basses.

For what it's worth, I rather like Antigua...
