I decided to sit down and watch The Thing tonight. One of the few well done remakes. Has some great dialogue in it too.

"I know you gentlemen have been through a lot, but when you find the time
I'd rather not spend the rest of this winter TIED TO THIS F*****G COUCH!"

That line had me laughing for a good 5 minutes. I don't know how many times I've watched this movie and that line always gets me. The Thing easily sits in my top ten favorites. Hey Hollywood, if you're going to insist on churning out reames, how about more like this?

The cat scene is totally fake, I've already done the research and spent considerable time trying to convince some stubborn people on another forum.

One of my recent favorites is "El Orfanato" - The Orphanage. It's in Spanish, but it's by Guillermo Del Toro, who did Pan's Labyrinth (another great movie if you haven't seen it!).

A woman, her son and her husband move back to the orphanage that she grew up in to start a home for disabled children, but the house turns out to be haunted. In any case, they're making an American version of it for release in 2011, so see it now so you can say you liked the original better. :)

Bringing this one back from the dead. Again! :D Halloween 2 just came out on dvd so I finally go to check it out: :o I don't get why borrow an old title and then turn it into a totally new movie. I will give it up to Rob Zombie for putting plenty of originality in his movies but I don't know about this one. His first Halloween was way better.

I just saw Halloween 2 (new one) myself two days ago. I disagree- I thought it was FAR superior to the first one. While it does go into some of the trippier elements he used in House of a Thousand Corpses that I didn't dig so much, it has a really dark feel and doesn't feel "fake" as most horrors do. It's also the only horror movie that's made me tear up (home video footage). I listened to the commentary, and apparently there was a lot taken out of the the theatrical version, so I guess I'm glad I never saw it in theaters.

I agree that it doesn't feel fake as you say. There were the few surprises in there too which I thought was pretty good. Otherwise I thought it was cheesy overall especially with the whole journey part. And the pseudo-Platoon ending. :D It also gave me a sense of deja vu. It reminded me of the original as much as the first remake did.

So what's next?? The Blob? :D
