The sa bef is cheap... 119 usd I think.. Other pedal to look at is boss syb5, behringer bsy600, take note though the sa bef need a fuzz to feed into it before you get a good wobble. Syb5 cost 169 usd but you dont need to get a fuzz to run into it. take note of the tracking though

okay thanks, i think i might get the BEF, i do have a distortion on my amp, but do i need a specific pedal to get a distortion or fuzz?

or would i just be able to get a Multiwave Bass Distortion and use that with the hh3?

Any man, check what other ppl are using, check out the demo online for tht, i know some ppl is doing well with ehx bass big muff or odb3, I personally use swollen pickle. Take note though you will get v diff result if you use your amp as the distortion. As normally we use distortion/fuzz into the bef, if you use your amp as distortion your signal chain will be bass bef fuzz.

Yes the multiwave will work the the Hot Hand, but it may not get you the best wobble sounds. It will get you something closer to the sound in Muse's track 'Madness'

Both at the same time? And please do define "Cheap" :)
I don't have it myself (unfortunately), but the Behringer BASY600 has a sawtooth generator - it's not a distortion, so chords will confuse it; but it does have a harmonic rich sound and an expression input for filter control. It's basically the same as a Boss SYB-5, there are some videos with that and the HH3 on youtube.

Another option might be the BEF and a cheap distortion. I just don't feel you get the deep wobble, with the Lo-retain on, and only the BEF P has the ability to turn it off.

I'm going through all this now so I can give u some good advise. You MUST have OD or fuzz in front of the filter. This sustains it and really gives it the dynamic of the filter. The SA mwbd seems better than an analog sounding fuzz (big muff pi) for the overtones and tightness it produces. Putting a compressor at the end of the chain balances the peaks well especially if your getting the extreme wobbles, don't tame it, just limit the peaks some to not piss of your house and monitor guys-

cheap for me would be around the $100-$200 mark. i was thinking about maybe getting the bef with a big muff pi?

so are you saying to get something like a envelope filter with the mwbd? i have a compressor on my amp, will that be any use? and will i just be able to get the first envelope filter? (not the 2 or pro)

Having watched many people try to do this, I will summarize the input from above.

You have the HH3, so pick up the Soundblox Bass Envelope Filter. $119 new, perhaps cheaper used. This will get you started. It is the most proven filter for use with Hot Hand.

To make the wobbles more harmonically rich and complex, you should put some kind of bass distortion BEFORE the filter. No, you cannot use the distortion in your amp. The compressor in your amp can be helpful, as Jaibeau points out.

What kind of distortion?

It really needs to be one targeted for the bass. One very popular approach is to use our Multiwave Bass Distortion (also $119). You can hear clips of BEF/MWBD combination from us and many, many others all over YouTube. This distortion pedal has lots of different sounds that are fuzzy and synthy and make for a very nice match with the BEF. This may exceed your budget, but it is low risk.

The Multiwave is not the only option, however!! You can also use a Big Bass Muff, for instance. The price point is much lower, and many people prefer this tone to that of Multiwave. It is more of a "classic" tone. There are lots of bass distortion pedals out there at many price points, and you can read TB all day reading about them! It might be worth asking for the lowest cost distortion pedal which works well with the BEF.

Yes, the basic SA BEF is fine, it is better friends with the hot hand than other filters (they made it ; ) ...) but any OD will feed the filter enough juice to sustain your wobbles. I just like the SA mwbd soundblox 2 for its two presets, one for the wobble, and another for my main fuzz. Kill two birds with one stone with the soundblox 2 or the mwbd pro. The compressor on your amp will be useful for the peaks but a pedal that dials in your ratio and threshold is better- have fun, it's a cool new toy, just use it resourcefully to not piss off your band-

Thanks heaps guys. ill get the envelope filter and the mwbd and then down the track maybe a compression.
Just one last question,
what order do I plug it all in? And which pedal do I plug the hot hand into?

Bass -> Distortion -> Filter -> Amp

Optionally an octaver between bass and distortion and a compressor between filter and amp.

Plug the HH into the filter for Wob wob or into the distortion for kind-of-like-a-tremolo-effect
