How have your tastes changed?

Now... flats, rolled off highs, less notes the better, one pickup/passive.

It's been interesting seeing how my bass tastes have changed over time--how about yours?

Then: short scale
Now: medium scale

Then: semi-hollow body
Now: solid body

Then: neck pickup and dark, fundamental-heavy tone
Now: middle (even slightly bridge-ward) pickup and articulate, mid-rich tone

No change: limited neck taper, narrow string spacing at bridge

No change: flat wound strings

i have once swore to only ibanez basses.. i have recently gotten a deal on a fender american special precision.
loved it. got 2 more since and traded off one of my beloved ibanez..i now have a american special. fender le midnight precision brand new.. and a brand new fender player series with upgraded pu to geezer butlers..i love all 3 basses more than i have ever loved my ibanez. i am hooked.. i do wanna try to geddy lee bass

Now: bridge pickup with the tone rolled off almost completely

No change : string gauge and material (nps). Neck dimensions and scale length.

Then. Hated Gibsons. Hated short scale. Hated worn, scratched finishes and rust/ tarnish.
Now. Gassing for 34" scale Gibsons. Hating short scale even more. Despise Relick'ed instruments.

No meaningful change. Started on a fretless four 45+ years ago, still play one as my main thing.

Then, for decades: curvy brunettes with epic bosoms.
Now, thin blondes.

As far as guitar and bass tones I'm stuck forever in "curvy brunettes with epic bosoms" kind of sound preference. Big, heavy, dark and warm. Everything is coming up roses these days- thin blonde bass player GF with big heavy dark and warm feel for rhythm and sound. Gotta order her an Ampeg combo day after tomorrow!

As I get older, I find I have less tolerance for shrieking. If I wanted to listen to that, I'd still be married to my first wife. But I'm still playing Fenders through Gallien-Kruegers, so life is good.

I went from wanting insane active electronics and crazy tonewoods to traditional P and J tones. It's also really helped my patience, as lighter-weight Fenders seem to sell as soon as I find/save up for them.

Still grinding through GK and a slew of pedals, though

Child of the 80s, so PJ, GK/Hartke, active, pick. All that has changed, apart from PJ. I still like PJ, but have come around to more straight P. And just recently built an honest-to-goodness J and loving it.

Was 'anything but Fender' - still don't care for their products directly, but definitely have gotten more conventional in my desires for a good Precision-type and a good Jazz-type.

Idol was Billy Sheehan, now it's more Pino Palladino, Bernard Edwards and Will Lee.

Now: Same as before, but with a newfound preference for a P-Bass with flats and some interesting finish.

Basically, I don’t care as long as I like it, but the sound I find myself gravitating toward recently is vintage P fatness.
