I have two boards with 5 pedals each. The larger board has a mixer to drive my IEMs. The chain goes OC-2, WH Green Rhino, TC HelixPhaser, TC SectraComp and Boss TU-2.

I have a Nano for when IEMs are not used. That board also has an OC-2 followed by a WH P&P, TC Spark, Donner Chorus and a Boss NS-2. I carry a Zoom MS-60B to supplement either board or as a stand alone when appropriate.

Then there are some odds and ends including a Nano Pog, Boss TR-2, vintage Small Stone and Mooer Bass Sweeper.

And finally there’s a Mooer Yellow Comp and Mosky Loop pedal, both of which died just a few months after purchase. There’s also a vintage DOD chorus and another Small Stone that are in need of repair.

Playing in a funk/R&B/Disco band. Pedals on my board that I would not want to do a gig without:
Cog T65 octaver
3Leaf Audio Chromatron envelope filter
Broughton Audio Germanium fuzz
Future Impact (synth bass pedal)
delay pedal (solos only)
Sonic Orb Phaser
Dunlop mini wah pedal
Creations Audio Labs Funkulator (mid scoop pedal for slap bass).

This is the mimimal 'standard' board. Fits in a messenger bag. Then there's a few pedals to swap out/add to/ bring by themselves.

Far too many (around 40) and I hardly use them. At least I've built most of them myself so they didn't cost me a fortune. I actually enjoy building pedals a lot more than using them these days. I used to have a huge pedalboard loaded with pedals until I realised I get a much better tone and much less noise without them.

Compressor pedal? Nah, my rack compressors eat any pedals I've tried for breakfast.
Overdrive? No thanks, overdriven tube amps sound way better.
Chorus/modulation? Has never been my thing.
Metal style distortion? I'll leave that to the guitars.
Octave? Well, I think it's a lot of fun but how often do I actually USE it?
Fuzz? Oh allright, there's my weak spot. I still LOVE a good fuzz pedal and I feel naked without at least one!

I collected a whole bunch of pedals when I was playing guitar live, but I never used anything besides a noise gate and maybe a tuner. Now my bass board has nine pedals, and I'm constantly trying to figure out how to squeeze more on. I also have four other dirt pedals sitting around unused - the true mark of a guitar player. Don't tell anybody.

Headcount of 18 here. As a habit, I don't keep pedals I don't have a current use for so they all see action.

9 on my pedalboard (sigged)
6 on a "home studio effects rack" for both bass and guitar : Boss TU-3, Digitech Mosaic, Zoom MS50G, EHX Bass Clone, Zoom B1on, Boss DD-7
2 Boss GE-7s for may Roland DS88 keyboard
1 old Boss CE-3 on a shelf, not sure what to do with that one.

My craziest period was about 8 years ago, when I had a 20-pedal board and another 10 on rotation. But now I've grown out of that, I'm told.
:-)

I buy them as I need them for whatever I’m currently doing and unload most of them locally afterwards - unless my SO snags it for her assemblage first. Being a guitarist, her pedal use is more routine than mine. With me it’s more of a hobby. I’ll rarely play out with effects beyond the non-effecty types such as compressors, EQs, and preamps. Those are also the bulk of what I do keep.
