+1Birdseye maple for me. I like the snap. If I want a dark wood, Ebony is the alternative. Not a big rosewood fan.
Any way to toughen things up? I recall seeing a few threads on this subject but can't quite recall the details.I have a fretted bass with maple board, a fretless with rosewood and a fretless with ebony board. The rosewood gets eaten away by roundwound strings and needs redressing every 5 years or so. The ebony is holding up much better and sound better too in my opinion.
None of my basses have necks. Is that wrong?
