How old were you when you had your first gig :D

17. 1967. A bar called The Rag Doll in Jersey city, New Jersey. Our parents had to be there because of our age. First song was Good Lovin' by The Young Rascals. In the middle of the song, 2 dancers came out and climbed into cages and started dancing, which totally screwed us up. My mom wanted to drag me out of there. I'll never forget that as long as I live.

13. The band was called Sunrise and we were hired to play for a church youth party. I was playing my brand new Fender Musicmaster bass with it's Musicmaster bass amp. I still own the bass. The band got paid $25 total which paid to replace the speaker that I blew that night.
I had only been playing for about one month, so I just sang on about half the material and put my bass down. We were doing Steppenwolf, Grand Funk, Cream and Hendrix.

If you count a high school talent show, 15. If not then 16. I was playing an Ibanez SR405 through an Ampeg BA115 with a small collection of pedals I can't remember exactly. I think I had a boss odb-3, boss chorus, and some kind of Korg multi effects unit that was actually pretty cool.

12. My dad had a recording job for a friend at Kodak. It was all short cues for a multi-media show that they took to Expo '67, in Montreal.

Direct to a single Electrovoice mic and a mono Ferrograph reel-to-reel. No overdubs, and I kept missing the chord changes, so we'd have to start over again.

The drummer (Roger Flock, later went on to be a prof at Humber College in Toronto) and my dad were both one-take wonders, but they were pretty easy-going about it.

Lunch time at my old elementary school's cafeteria/auditorium. I "promoted" the gig. My mom was able to set it up because of her previous involvement in the school's Parent/Teacher Association. We used our station wagon (remember those?) to haul everything.

No recordings but have a pic! Unfortunately, the lead singer blocked most of me and my shades :cool: out of the pic.:atoz:

Band Name: Limited Sound Distortion (L.S.D.)

Ha, ha....we thought we were so cool when we put those initials on the drum head. :ninja: Truth is that we were so far from the drug scene that we barely knew where to find an aspirin in our own homes. LOL

Lead(13): Red Fender Jaguar > Fender Deluxe Reverb (all new - lucky guy :))
Rhythm(11): No name> Fender Tweed Champ (probably a '57 or '58).
Bass: No name guitar-refinished light metallic blue-recut nut-4 heavy gauge guitar strings> Sears Twin Twelve
I picked up an no name sunburst (red/black) violin bass not long after the gig. My next bass was a '63 Hofner BB!
Vocalist (13): House PA with Shure Mic.
Drums: No drummer at the time :atoz:

We played 3 songs which I'm pretty sure were:
Rolling Stones - Last Time
Them - Gloria
The Standells - Dirty Water

We were actually half-decent. We played a several local gigs together over the next two years until I moved away. We all went on to many other bands over the years. I got in contact with the "boys in the band" a few years ago. The lead and rhythm still play and I've been jamming with the lead player semi-regularly over the past 3 years.:)

The very good drummer we did find soon after this gig unfortunately passed away about 20 years ago in his late 30's. We found him when we were walking home from school one day and heard him practicing. We took a chance and knocked on the door. He was a couple of years older than us (and about a foot taller) when he joined our band and when high school got more of his attention, he moved on. Still, we got to spend time with a great guy and great drummer. RIP John. :atoz:

15 at a school dance. The band was called Syko. Pretty cool, huh? I had a Peavey Fury and a Peavey TNT 130. I had owned both for 8 days and had one bass lesson under my belt after playing guitar for 6 months. I had no idea what I was doing other than play the root note.

We played Round and Round by Ratt, Crazy Train, and Paranoid and few others. I was too naive to be nervous. All you had to do was have long hair and make the right bass face, right? :bassist:

1980 at age 15 at a pool party at a country club. I played guitar then. Weird transition time in music for me. I remember l was wearing kneehigh mocassin boots and a dashiki while the lead singer(always ahead of me in music and fashion taste) was rocking skinny ties and those Capezio dance shoes. Wish I had pics!

36 (I took my first lesson at 31). I had just been hired to play three nights a week in a house band starting the following Wednesday when I got a phone call: Our bass player is sick, and we have a wedding gig tonight. So my first gig was as a sub for a band that I'd never seen before and haven't seen since. That was over 30 years ago, so it's unlikely I'll ever see them again.
