How to make a cat-proof amp cover?

cats are terrible house pets, peeing on everything to mark territory and shredding if they have their front claws. My bands guitarist won't buy used gear for fear it will smell like cat piss. This is why we can't have nice things


I can't think of a material they won't use to sharpen their claws with. I've seen them use wooden door frames, drywall, cloth and leather sofas, and carpets.

Only if they use them. Owning one doesn't mean it gets used exclusively but yes I agree, one is a must have for a car owner.

The key is more than one....i keep 4 or so for my two cats. They chew my pedal board and phone wires but leave the furniture alone!

This one goes where she wants. Never scratches anything but her scratching post and me.

I use fabric store vinyl to make covers. This one is a heavy duty vinly, thicker than typical tolex. Many of the companies mentioned make covers like this at affordable prices.

No pics of just the covers. A couple can be seen at the bottom left and top right. They help protect the gear from sunlight and dust as well. A good investment.

My mother in law likes to crochet so I had her make me a couple camo covers for my Hartke XL210s. My cat ignores my cabs completely now.

One of my cats is scared of inflated balloons....Maybe an inflatable amp jacket

Or just get some old seafoam kustom cabs they kinda look balloonish

They like materials that are rough for scratching on, helps sharpen their claws or pull off the old bits of claw.

First step is to give them something else to rip on. They'll go bananas for sisal rope or those cardboard things that you can make with some hot glue and a bunch of old boxes for pennies compared to buying them.

Whatever you give them to rip on, cover it in catnip so they're drawn to it.

Whatever cover you get made after the cats realize they've got other good poopie to rip on, further deter them from ripping on your new one by draping tape, sticky side out, over the cover. A couple times getting tangled in that and they'll never do it again.

I have more than 5 cats, trust me.

This particular cover was made of pleather. Just enough rubbery give to sink your claws into.

They already have stuff to rip on that they love. This amp happens to be one cat's fetish.

I do like the tape idea though. Will give it a shot.
