at the moment im have no visual with the outside world
all the windows are boarded up
i spray painted a bullseye on the plywood
with a big "COME AND TAKE IT!" right next to it
my house is filled to the brink with, as my mom calls it, "Rations"
we'll see how it goes

I bought all the required supplies plus a new chainsaw and tarps to cover a possible roof puncture. Will board up tomorrow. Looks like it will be as bad as Alicia and we didnt have power for a week after her.

Waves are already going over the seawall in Galveston. I don't think we'll get anything here as fas as storm surge. I do want to take this opportunity to thank everyone here at TB for their support and well-wishes. I think I'm probably the closest TBer to the point of impact, I'm 11 miles from Galveston to the south, the Bay is only 5 miles to my east. Don't anybody even think of asking me to film the storm in progress- I'm crazy, but I'm not stupid! ;)

My friend lives in Seabrook, they are bugging to a hotel in the Galleria, as their home will likey go into the Bay for a while.

Worst thing about this storm is the timing- I HATE storms that hit at night. That's just wrong.

I was expecting to wake up this morning with the wind blowing and some light rain. It's a nice day. Looks to me like it's headed more west than anything. It's been cruising along close to 26N since yesterday afternoon. They were saying last night it could hit to the east of us. Unless this thing starts driving due north like right now I don't see that happening. The way it's moving now it looks like Corpus is going to take the hit. Who knows. :hmm:

Just saw some shots of Galveston on the telly. No wind and no rain, but half the island is flooded.

So far, we're OK here in La Marque. The winds have just started picking up. All the residents on our street are staying, except my next door neighbor. He went to the airport last night and caught the last plane out for Dallas. He already sent his wife and kid up there. So we are babysitting his dog, our neighbors next door have their cat. It's getting windy, we've had some 50-55 mph gusts, but nothing too bad yet. Some sprinkles of rain, but nothing that even wet the grass down too hard. The animals are nervous, they know what's coming. We've been taking them out back for short, supervised breaks. They're used to coming and going as they please, now they can't even see out the windows, they don't like that. In a few short hours, that option will be off the table as well.

Galveston is flooding, bad. Most of the town is under water. The seawall is shaking with every wave that pounds it. The city has shut off water. Bad scene there- I know lots of dumbasses that stayed for the storm.

Seabrook/Kemah is going in the drink too. My buddy who lives in Seabrook took off this morning, he's expecting, if the forecast is correct, to have four to eight feet of water in his house. He's at 11 feet, I think he said. He and his wife went to the west side of Houston, they're in a motel, 4th floor.

that was really kind of your managers not to make you endanger your life by coming in in the middle of a hurricane. stand up guys :eyebrow:

Ya think? The plant manager and the maintenance manager are known throughout the company as micro-managing pricks. Nobody likes them, even further up the food chain. I called out to the plant, they're micro-managing the guys on hurricane duty already, calling them every 10 minutes with laundry lists of things to do, and little "projects"- they want them to fix some hot spots in the boilers, for instance. Right. In a hurricane. Sure. I'm about to call the ethics hotline and the CEO of the company, to report what jackasses they have running the plant.

My garage doors started to bang around a little, from the wind. So I found some wood to brace them in the middle. Now they are silent, but I hear neighbor's garage doors rattling. Had to go out and get one shutter down that was banging against the house. How the hell am I expected to sleep with that racket going on? :mad:
