Not bad up here in the Woodlands yet. No rain, but the pine trees are definetly starting to sway a lot though. We've got electricity still, but all the traffic lights were blinking earlier.

Gas went up bout 25 cents in one day and people were lined up at the pumps today cuz they were sayin gas might go up to $6 a gallon. Stay homes. Holmes. Oh this is Arkansas. I miss Minnesota.
$3.88 on my way home from work today, and they say the same thing. Gas could be $5.00 or $6.00 a gal up this way tomorrow.
I guess we'll see how much damage this thing does.

Still got power here. We had a blip about 30 minutes ago, but it didn't go out. The gusts come and go. Otherwise, business as usual. I just invoiced a customer for the final payment on a bass.

Maybe I misheard the reporter, but I thought I heard some guy on the Weather Channel say that 24000 people stayed on Galveston Island. If this is true, they are morons.

Damn. So maybe I heard correctly. I hope they wrote their social security number on their wrist. The real water hasn't hit them, from what I'm seeing. The back end of the storm will bring more than they have now. It is stupid. I'm afraid the end result could be worse than Katrina.
At least in N.O. the winds had passed by the time the water really got bad. With Galveston, your looking at the water coming in with the winds. Totally different situation. The "high ground" of standing buildings might get blown/washed away. Staying was a bad idea.

well as of this moment no rain in my area which is west houston... just west of the beltway and south of i-10 really calm... just talkin to some ppl on the internet listen to music and drinkin' soda... like any other late weekend night really.

The sheer size of it has been amazing. We had water pushed up into Lake Ponchartrain today and gusts to 60 mph. As I crossed the lake, the waves kissed the underside. That's a lot of wind-driven water pretty damn far from the center.

Yeah, you heard correctly. There's gonna be a lot of hurt people wishing they'd left when they had the chance after this is over and done with.
Still nothing but wind in the medical center so far.
Yuo work out there, I guess? My mom has infrequent visits to MD Anderson for all the wrong reasons.
EDIT: I've got a friend who stayed in Atascocita (sp) who isn't feeling anything yet, either, aside from light wind. He's new to this and asked when they would turn the lights back on. I told him to expect at least 48 hours in the heat.

Yeah, I work across the street from M.D. Anderson in the plant that supplies its heating, cooling, and emergency power. I'm on the emergency staff that gets locked in the plant in the event of a hurricane.
