oooo it's hitting us.

This city burys it's electric lines in the neighborhoods. Very cool to look over the horizon and not see electric lines, the power stays on longer too...

Ouch. My wife actually quit a job here primarily because she was deemed "necessary personnel" and wasn't allowed to evacuate. We lucked out during Katrina as we were already out of town on a planned long weekend when she was called back in. She quit shortly after.

News report I read was s higher figure than that, with rescue crews being called off and people now fending for themselves. Just said on cnn headline news, the island will likely be underwater for 12 hours.

My gut says this one is going to be ugly, and from what I have read on here alone, quite a few don't seem to be concerned.

This place is pretty heavily fortified against flooding and high winds, I'm not too worried. To be perfectly frank, this place is probably safer than my own apartment at this point.

My only complaint is the cots. I can't get any bloody rest on the thing...

Well i would say i have room for a few of you (and your equipment) but apparently we are also in the path of this thing (Tyler - Palestine) supposedly it will hit here on Saturday afternoon or evening

Good luck to all of you....and if any of you have evacuated north or are in the process) to around the Tyler area..... i have room for a few people....

Brennan's of Houston, has been destroyed by fire.....firefighters were thwarted by high winds. The restaurant had been a downtown institution for more then four decades.

i just got a text message from BASSIC83 [ERIC] and he had a tree fall on his house but it held the roof on. he said galveston is effed up. i believe he live about 5 miles north of galveston in le marque. at least he is ok!!!!!

We're 93 miles west southwest of Houston and were GFDL'd as a direct path a few days back so we:

1) Made cancel-able reservation in San Antonio
2) Put up 16 sheets worth of plywood on windows(!!)
3) Tested generator, got fuel(ran it for 2 weeks without power after Claudette!)
4) Stocked up on no-cook items

We decided not to bail at 11 am yesterday when we were on the edge of Cat 1 winds(westside). I was going to bring enough to gig with(3 basses, Line 6, 2 ACME's, amp rack) in case we came back to a pile of splinters(same as the Rita evac). My brother is in west Houston and I've not heard from him yet. We're ok but have a lot of cleanup(tree limbs, board removal, etc.) to do as we had very good wind out of the north(feeders down the west side of the storm). We are in the area the dry air was coming from that IKE kept choking on as our humidity was lower than normal Thursday and Friday. We may leave the boards on until H-season is over.....my arms & hands hurt today.

I got a verbal report from some friends (I'm from the Beaumont area). One family had a tree drop on their house and it pretty much cut it in two from what they were told (3rd party surveying th damage). The other two that have checked in got minimal damage considering. I'm still waiting on a few people who evacuated to find out about there homes, including ym parents. I might be in early next week helping out for a few days.

You live in Palestine? My parents evacuated to Athens where my uncle lives.

My mother just called, told me their chimney got ripped right off the side of the house. Other than that they're ok, and apparently my apartment and my roommate made it through too. That's a big relief for me. I hope he still has some beer left when I get home...

Got a call from my parents today. The house made it through, but the winds uprooted 2 trees in my front yard. These aren't small trees either :/

I'm happy the house is okay, and so are my parents. Now I'm just waiting for the storm to roll up here.

Getting ready to go to that party/gig thing. We didn't get so much as a single drop of rain here. So much for those preparations!

I hope everyone is ok. I am scared for those folks who stayed on Galveston. My goodness. Y'all up in the Beaumont area, you hang tough! I know its bad over there. To all of you...I hope you are all safe, and that you didn't suffer too much damage.

Thanks for the update; that is great news. I never thought that a tree falling on your house could be a good thing but hurricanes can really turn your world upside down.
