Subbed until it’s found! Between this and Dorian I’m a wreck.
Every time I lose something like that it’s because I put it some place “clever”. I now remind myself to never be clever. 
I just did this, with of all things my vacuum cleaner.
My parents house is a hotspot for wormholes.
You can put something down on an otherwise clear surface in the kitchen, or front hall, and as soon as you turn your back a wormhole will open up, and swallow the item.
It doesn't matter how hard you look, or how many times - it simply isn't there, because the wormhole spat the object out 5 minutes into the future.
Come back in 5 minutes, and there it is.
Common wormholes are 5 minutes - 4 days, and anywhere from 3 weeks - 3 months.
Unfortunately, their home is also host to a few medium to long range wormholes of 3-5 years, and the longer variety into which my yet to materialise calculator watch fell, when I took it off to wash my hands in 1983.
On the plus side, the wormholes always spit the item out at some point in the future, so I'm assuming the batteries in my calculator watch will still be as fresh as they were in 1983, when it eventually materialises.
The down side is that some items that have reappeared, such as plates, tools, riding spurs, and clay tobacco pipes, originally fell into wormholes that opened up in the 18th century.

If you're married, I have to politely ask if your wife threw it away. Because in my experience, wives throw everything away.
I used to get really agitated when I misplaced something (still do!) and my mom would say, "Slow down and open your eyes". She was right.
I misplaced a package with a white label on top not too long ago. So, I was looking for something that was white and similarly sized. I finally found it on a shelf, and must have looked right at it 5 or 6 times. It was turned upside down with the white top no longer visible. When I slowed down I found it.

Have to say thanks here; as a 50+ year old bassist this thread resonates with me more than just about anything I’ve read here of late.
I feel your pain. I would have replied earlier but after reading your post I put my specs down & went to make a cuppa joe. Just found the damn’ things...
That's the problem with glasses. I need them to FIND THEM.
I'm going to take this opportunity to gripe about the wife-type. She will absolutely sort stuff, like mail, into keep and trash piles and then throw away the keep pile. Also, we have this conversation regularly:
Me: Have you seen my (wallet, keys, head, etc.)?
Wife-type: No. Did you look in the (closet, dresser, night stand, etc.)?
Me: Yes, I've looked. It wasn't there.
Wife-type proceeds to look there anyway.
Lather, rinse, repeat...

I hate to admit I have done this exact same thing.
Trust me, hoarding is better than having someone who randomly throws stuff away and then just gives you a blank stare when you ask where it went
Last night I wondered if my reading glasses were broken. Problem was, I couldn't see well enough up close without them on my face to tell... #gettingoldsucks #beatsthealternative
