I Present the IdiotBox Effects's Blower Box

I just added the BB to my board yesterday, the smaller green one. I haven't had a chance to use it with the band yet but it's very interesting. I'm not sure if I'm sold on it as a standalone -however it sounds killer with a modded Pork Loin in front of it.

There's a lot of dirt on tap here! Ive got the highs off, bass around 2:00, Dist at 10:00, and Vol near noon or unity I guess. I need to put it through it's paces at rehearsal volume but so far I'm liking it.

Im having some troubles with my BB. It sounds great on its own, but with a band it disappears in the mix. Been fideling and tweaking but nothing seems to work. Almost like there is not enough volume in it. It is freaking loud, but still.

And I sold mine. Great pedal, just didn't fit with the band. I'm kinda bummed because the videos were so cool, but I can't justify the board space for such limited use. If I played some slower, sludgy stuff - the BB would just crush! There will be a next time..

Try an Boss LS2 to clean blend. I havn't tried this but need to as there were similar issues found on my part. Interesting part is I'm using the Landphil as primary and it's cutting a bit better. Still have my V1 BB so one day I will have the time to get a LS2 and try with clean blend.

cough cough

So how are you liking your BB man!!!???

My board has been through a TON of changes over the last couple years. Especially in the dirt section. And the BB has been there through all of it. However, with all the additions and subtractions I've been through, I've gained some great pedals that just plain work with my band. This is the first time that I have come to the point where I think the BB may come be coming off. I don't use it as much anymore. There was a time when I said that the BB blew the rat tail out of the water. I can no longer say that :sorry::jawdrop:.....I love my RT just as much as my BB these days and I am using the RT a hella lot more than the BB. Not to say it's better, they are just different and I use them for different things. I almost don't want to knock the BB off because it's been with me so long no matter what. Plus I still love the way it sounds. There is no other pedal that sounds like it. And I dig that uniqueness. I may just have to keep a spot warm for it anyway.

I'm bumping up this old thread 'cause I just got a BB!
This little box rips paint off the wall with ease, woah!

Anyone dares sharing is settings?
I'm not totally used to the controls yet.

Treble and Bass 12 o'clock = no cut, no boost, flat mids?
Boosted treble and bass = scooped mids
Cut treble and bass = bossted mids?

Is that how it works?

Thanks for the help!

I don't know if the BB has baxandall EQ controls or not, but right now I'm using it as more of an aggressive light OD, with my Carcosa serving as my crazy fuzz sound.

Thanks for you settings, I'll try them tonight!

Regarding the EQ section, this is what I found: Perf and PCB Effects Layouts: Idiot Box Effects Blower Box

Here's a pretty cool bass distortion based on the RAT. The normal filter section on a RAT is replaced with a passive baxandall network. It was traced by FSB member p.eat and the schematic I based this layout from was drawn by @johnk_10 .

I can compare it to the rat king by fuzzrocious. I like the BB better. It's cleaner and has a more tweakable EQ. The bass is capable of dialing massive low end where as the low end retention with the RK is just alright. Plus the size of the BB wins out. And it looks a lot cooler ;) plus again, I simply think it sounds better. There's an inherent tone to the BB that's not in the RK, it has a great rat characteristic yet it has it's own voice combined. I'd choose the BB over the RK any day of the week.

Well look at me now haha whoops! I have eaten my own words (again ;)) as the RT is on my board now and the BB isn’t. I still and always will love my BB. I just prefer the grind of the RT these days. Not better or worse. Both are just a little different and very aweome in their own ways.
