Ibanez ATK initial impressions

I adjusted my truss rod, which was actually pretty difficult. It seemed like there was a lot of resistance. Anyway, now I'm getting fret buzz at the 1st fret. Has anyone else had trouble adjusting the truss rod? I've adjusted truss rods before, but none have been this difficult to get adjusted correctly.
As for the pickup, I love it. IMO there is a huge difference between the settings. I can't imagine anyone not being happy with the multiple sounds that come out of this bass.

There must be some variability in them. The diffs between the sounds of the three switch positions were so subtle that at first I thought the switch did nothing. It was working, though; I could tell by tapping with a metal screwdriver that the different coils were being selected. It just didn't make much difference in the sound. I tried Rotosounds on it, flats, and half rounds, all with the same result. I ended up selling it pretty cheap to a stranger; I wish I'd found TB before I sold it, though. I'd have been glad to pass it on to one of you ATK enthusiasts. It was a really pretty bass, a kind of slightly darkened natural transparent finish with a maple fretboard.

I tried an ATK300 2 weeks ago...

my impressions...

Feel...
excellent "old school"...as the OP said...very much like a P-bass
solid...not light...but not extremely heavy

Versality in Sounds...
all 3 settings very useable...not drastically different, but quite a versatile bass
...roll of the tone knob, put the selector to the first setting and you can play dub all day
...open up the tone knob, throw the selector to "attack" and you're slappin' like Louis Johnson

Construction...very good...not insane, but very good for a middle-range instrument...

Would I like to own one...OH YES...but I have no need for one at the moment...

Mine came set up perfect from the factory... however I just turned my truss rod for fun... and it moved fine. :)

One thing I don't like about it is that it's not like the MM where you can stick something all the way through. You almost need something that fits perfectly... I used an allen key.
My ATK came with this metal rod to adjust the truss rod.

I've been toying with the idea of buying a used 5er and defretting it... I love the variety of sounds from it and I think it'd be sweet in a fretless!

The fretless ATK on the right is probably my favorite bass right now ... they really do sound great in fretless IMO. I wouldn't even consider using my fender jazz passive fretless playing live rock/blues but this ATK really has a nice chunky full sound that I like and the guys in the band like a lot too ... no fret noise ever. The more I play fretless, the more I'm starting to dislike the feel of frets under my fingers ... you can even pop and slap the fretless ATK a bit too and it cuts through with a really interesting tone.

Here's a real stupid question.....I just picked up an ATK700, with the natural quilted top. I love it, plays great, sounds great, looks great. I was peeling the protective plastic off the covers....the battery cover actually has "9V Battery Inside" scribed on the cover. Is that actually so, or does it have a thin plastic cover on it that I'm just not getting at. I feel like an idiot if that's so, but I'm not getting my nail under anything. But I can't believe Ibanez actually wuld have that printed on that cover, very tacky if it is.
Please advise...
