Just remember, half the population has below average IQ.
Actually, half the population is below the median IQ
A .50 cal bullet no less.@FingerDub That article is nuts.
I've jumped off of a house into a pool... More than several times. Liquor was usually involved and once so was a BMX bike.
It's too big of a leap for me to try to trap a bullet with an encyclopedia. That's well beyond tide pod territory. Is youtube making people act like asses or do we just get to see it now? I wonder.

"Creates laugh riot"How many baby boomers looking at comic books knew these ads were a scam but secretly bought them or at least hoped and wished they really worked?

I thought there was another category in there, maybe below idiot, called custodial.

"...the public was treated to a rendition of one of Aesop’s lesser-known fables, The Troll, the Moron, and the Stooge. There was no real moral, just a reminder that a sizable portion of the internet consists of opportunists tugging on their own nuts and screeching when they feel they haven’t received enough attention in the last hour."

Funny you should mention this particular scam...
A couple weeks ago, I got a call from the "IRS"---I usually don't answer my landline phone if it's not a family member, but on this particular day I was in a dicky mood.
"James" with the IRS informed me that the U.S Marshall Service has a warrant out for my arrest because of unpaid taxes. "Oh my goodness gracious!! We can't have that now, can we?", I replied and told him that I will go and get my bank account and routing numbers so that he can arrange for a direct payment.
So I put the phone down and went back to watching The X-Files. The desperate fool, thinking he had a sucker, stayed on the line and waited for almost 20 minutes before he disconnected.
I really wish I had more time to mess with these clowns.
Awesome!
They have the person go to a Walgreens or whatever store that sells iTunes gift cards. They stay on the line with them sometimes even. The people who fall for this don't know what iTunes is.Man, I'm with you on the scammers being the bad guy here.
But the elderly aren't paying with iTunes accounts. And millions of dollars aren't coming from the "mentally ill". A percentage is for sure. But not millions.
I will go and get my bank account and routing numbers so that he can arrange for a direct payment.
The elderly also get to a point where they mistrust their memory and think that it is plausible that they forgot to file their taxes. Scammers will often say something like "You remember last week when I called, we agreed that you would take care of this via our Itunes payment method because you were having trouble with your bank" and elderly people will just go along with it because they don't want to admit that they don't remember. They have the person go to a Walgreens or whatever store that sells iTunes gift cards. They stay on the line with them sometimes even. The people who fall for this don't know what iTunes is.
There are around 50 million Americans agreed 65 or older. If 0.1% of those are scammed out of $100, that works out to millions.
^^^ There is an app called HIYA. Does exactly that, sends calls right to voicemail if you want.
