I WOULD HAVE TO GO WITH MY FENDER PRECISION BASS, I'VE HAD IT FOR MORE YEARS THAN I CAN COUNT. I FEEL THAT I HAVE A PRETTY ORIGINAL SOUND. THIS LITTLE FENDER IS A GROWLER! IT HAS A DISTINCTIVE MEATY TONE THAT SOUNDS LIKE A FREAKIN' GREASY PIG SNORT! SERIOUSLY! VERY SWEET FOR ROCK.


ALSO, I HAD A KILLER RICKENBACKER BASS THAT ROCKED PRETTY HARD. I COULD ROCK OUT TO YES LIKE NOBODIES BUSINESS. THOSE WOULD BE MY TWO.

Hey Armybass,

What a coincidence.I was in the Army from early 1996 to mid 1999.I was a Unit Supply Specialist,so I did A.I.T. at Ft. Lee.I was in Mike Company(The Wolfpack)Ft. Lee is a nice post.
I got stationed at Ft.Hood(Killeen is the armpit of Texas) after my training,in a Combat Engineer Battalion.(4th Infantry Division)
I tried to get reassigned to the 4th I.D. band,but that didn't happen.I did get to go with them to the D.A. Battle of the Bands in Ft. Stewart,Ga. in early 1999,where we won the prize for best country band.That was a blast....No P.T.,no uniforms,and plenty of partying.I bet being in an Army band is the best job you can have in Uncle Sam's green machine.




My two basses would be a custom made Acacia 5 fretted,and another fretless.

Two basses, huh?
Without a doubt, one would be my ATK305. The trouble comes in deciding the second. Either my Roscoe LG3000 or Fender Jazz. I'd probably lean more towards the jazz just because it's nice to have the passive sometimes and I've had it longer.

You guys sure have a lot of money. I see a lot of high-end gear on here. Oh well, my favorite that I won't part with is my Peavey Forum-5. I'd put it up against a Stingray 5 any day. I haven't found the other one I can't live without, but I guess I'd have to say my G&L ASAT fretless is my next fave right now.

I read an article in an 1980-something issue of Guitar Player, which explained how to rewire a Fender Jazz to emulate the sound of a Fender P while still maintaining its Jazz character. Ever since, I've been hooked on the Jazz.

I'd have to go with two Fender Jazz Basses, both with the modification described above, one fretted 4 and one fretless 4 -- passive and strung with flats, of course. I would want either a Badass II or a Gotoh 206 in each bass. Rosewood fretboards. Very traditional, you know.

I'd have to throw down for a pair of custom basses.

Fretted 4 string BEAD (for rocking the heck out) with Hipshot D-tuners on all four strings
Fretted 5 BEADG for pretty much everything else.

Now, the serious question: what manufacturers?
Stambaugh?
FBB?
Curbow?
Ibanez (SR1300 and above)
Zon?
Roscoe?
Modulus?
Pedulla?
Ect, ect, ect

#1 my bass now, my GB IV Custom for me there isn't a bass in the world to touch it...the sound the look the feel they are just perfect for me

and my second

#2 prolly a top of the range GB Rumor bass with the all the jazzy bits...

I'm really not endorsing GB but how come so0 many ppl havnt heard of them... the lookm gorgeous but play so0o much better.. :D

Yah I've noticed you seem to be the one guy on these boards that is pretty happy with two and only two basses Josh (got it right that time ;)) Personally I'd pprobably be happy with two if I had some nice basses like the Zon, but right now I'm sittin here wishing I had my 5 fretless back in addition to the essex jazz and spector 5. I would like to try a good ABG, a 12, an 8, and a 6 down the road though. But right now, yah, i got my spector q5 adn my essex jazz 4 and tehy do the job good :)

If I could only have two, then it would have to be my trusty Gibson Thunderbird and my beat up old Kay upright, because I truly could not fathom going on as a bass player without either of them. At this point in time, they are each like an integral part of my personality.

However, it'd be nice to have a 5, so if I could add a third, it'd be a Sadowsky - probably Vintage 5.
