IK TONEX pedal

Did you find an Ad200B capture? I can't find one anywhere...only Orange guitar amps :mad:

I've yet to see any Orange bass amp (or cabinet) captures, not just on Tonex, but also with Two Notes! For some reason, there's a gap in the amp sim and IR market.

For me, it's a moot point though; I run a Sushi Box London Underground on my board, and that gives me all the AD200B juice I could need!

It's quite literally based on the AD200B front end (even says so on the graphic!). But the LU is discontinued, now it's the Underground Accelerator, which leans a bit more into Alembic/Fender territory. But it still has some of that Orange-ish heritage. The LU pops up on the used market here and there, so if you're patient, you can snag one for a decent price!

I tried the Orange profile on my 5-string, and with some serious EQ massaging and turning the gain down (still pretty massive gain) - I got something passable with my home rig. I would need to try it in a band context to really judge whether it would be useful.

I spent a couple of hours loading new presets on my Tonex and tweaking them to my taste and setup. I am loving the results and got extremely close to my Sushi Underground Accelerator with one of them. Great stuff! I noticed on Tone NET that there were several Orange profiles. I tried them, but they were pretty dark - so I didn’t put any on my Tonex. Still really enjoying this device!

One question for ToneX users: when you recall a stored preset, the position of the physical knobs no longer corresponds to the values of the new preset you just recalled, right ? So not only the physical knobs no longer represent the current tone settings, but also if you adjust the knobs from there, you may experience a sudden bump?

Why this kind of device doesn't use rotary encoders with LED rings instead?

That way, the knob would reflect the parameter value even when you recall a preset, and you always adjust the parameters from their current value, so there's never a sound bump…

The physical position of the knobs when you call up a new preset do not reflect saved values, nor will they change to the knob’s current position. If you start to change the knob, the display will briefly show the “saved” value from the preset - so you can move the knob to that value to make subtle changes. I haven’t noticed huge volume spikes when doing this, but I suppose it is possible if you have extreme settings. One thing you can do is to change the physical position of all the knobs to middle (or even zero) except for volume, then change presets without saving… this should minimize risk of large bumps.
Encoders with LED rings would be great! But I imagine that would increase the cost considerably.

Thanks for the clarification. I would have to try in person to understand how it really feels in terms of user experience. As for cost of an LED ring, I suppose the hardware cost for the component itself would be just a few cents per knob (with Chinese chain supply standards), but the cost of hardware and software integration might be important I suppose.

If only it had a TRS MIDI input on it, I'd snatch one up. Even USB MIDI would work, but I don't see any support for that either.
There is a USB C port on the front side of the pedal, a bit unusual but it certainly looks like something I will have to consider since it includes access to their excellent profiles and program.
