I'm settled: I only need 2 basses

If I were to settle on only two, I'd definitely keep my P with TI Flats, and my newly-acquired EBMM Stingray5 Special H (strung with stainless steel rounds).

But I would really prefer to have a third in my arsenal, specifically a 4-string with rounds (currently an Ultra Jazz). The Stingray5 sounds great, but I honestly just don't want to play a 5-string all the time.

Bass Mods 634, Sire Fretless 5, and my executive assistant...

I am, however, in the market for a very lightweight MM style bass (4 or 5 string) for corporate party/pop/wedding gigs!

My fundamental pair is similar to the OP's: G&L USA M-2500 and Fender Jazz. Someday I'll probably downsize to these two, because they can cover anything I'm likely to play. But I like my G&L USA SB-2 and JB way too much to unload them, and for some projects the SB-2 in particular works best.

I would like to get down to 2, but I have 2 dozen. Discounting a couple I'd never let go for various sentimental reasons, and only one has any real $ value, I've firmly decided, I don't know. Over the last couple of days since the thread started, I've probably had 6 variations depending on my mood at the time, but I can say for sure, it would be one of the 5s and one of the 6s. How's that for definitive?
And a Bass Vi, and I'm going to build a 4, so...

I do know I only need 3 guitars though; 1 electric (awesome cheap HSH Strat), an acoustic 6 (1980s Yamaha) and an acoustic 12 (newish Cort 710).

I'll be 49 this year. Soon 50! Time to reconsider some things...

I think I'm settled on my bass arsenal. It'll wield the 2 following weapons:
-My faithful G&L L2500, 5-string active bass. There is no finer, nor more a versatile instrument. (It emulates a Fender Jazz bass and a MusicMan pretty well too!)
-A quality Leo Fender Precision bass. Classic 4-string, split-pickup design. And such a soulful tone!

I now believe that if I own both such basses, I'll be set for life.

What are your 2 fundamental basses?

After years of suffering from B.O.D. (Bass Over-Acquisition Disorder), I have whittled down to only 2 and intend to keep it that way. A super-versatile and beautifully playing active 5-string (Lakland 55-02 Custom) and an active 4-string (Fender Precision Special Deluxe that wears LaBella Flats).

They're all I need*.

My Lakland is visible here: Lakland Owners Group #69

My Precision Special is visible here: Is it just me, but I just don't get the whole PJ thing

*except for the 5-string Jazz Frankenbass I kept to act as an emergency backup for the Lakland. :)

My two fundamental basses are among the dozen I own. The fundamental two are rotating positions…..
